Default LCD/DLP question re: Resolutions i/p

I see alot of people posting lately that they have this or that tv.

Never is it a CRT based set, yet they say oh I have the DLP model XXXXXX 1080i, or the LCD or Plasma model XXXXXX but not the 1080p I have the 1080i version.

Is this ingnorance? I thought all Digital displays were progressive, and therefore if it's not 1080p it's 1280x720p, 1366 x768p or I've even seen 1440x768p. I have never seen any plasma or LCD etc that is 1080i.

I think they're getting confused by 720p/1080i sets that will accept the 1080 signal

The numbers you mention are it's native resolutions. The LCD's, DLP's, and Plasma's you mention, have a native resolution of 720p, but are capable of displaying a 1080i image. In order to get FullHD or 1080p, a set's native resoultion would have to be 1920x1080. Just for the record, I have a CRT Samsung 30" widescreen tv.

see this is the wordage that gets confusing for these people. it accepts 1080i, but displays it at it's native 1280x720 or whatever it is. then the consumer hits display on their set and see's 1080i if they select that output, and then think thats what they are getting. The set is just taking what it can of the 1080i source and scaling it to it's native res.

but digital tv's will always display the material progressively, the scaler in the set de-interlaces it. and scales it to it's resolution.

Okay, so I have a 720p native resolution Sony LCD. It accepts 1080i, so if I understand everyone correctly the best I'm seeing is still 720p, right? If that is the case then I'm getting a 1080p soon.... Just waiting for the new Sony's to come out.

A lot of people hate Sony saying they are greedy... I'm here to tell ya that I've always purchased Sony electronics and they have always been reliable. I still have a Sony laser disc player and it works great. It's 10 years old. Keeps on running. Well my dad uses it ever since I upgraded to dvd, now I guess he will get my dvd's since I upgraded to blu-ray...

DPL are not native 1080p tv there 960x1,080 that do "wobulation" (mirror or lens moves rapidly back and forth) to make it do 1080p. There is one true 1080p dpl (3 chip) tv but it like $30K

just to make things more confussing
