Does anyone have advice on why this will not play in my Sony S350 player?

I have not have ANY blu-ray of any brand or year fail to play. I have the most recent firmware from earlier this year, and the disc itself is from 2008.

I got my copy from Amazon and it wouldn't play, so they kindly sent me a new one which also would not play. It's a region 1 disc, as is my player.

Both discs just refuse to load. I'm about to get another copy from Fox, but just wondered if anyone had a similar issue. It doesn't make any sense.

Thanks!

It is probably an unfixed firmware issue, specific to The Robe. Seeing as how the The Robe is not much of a seller, you might be one of the first people to play it on the Sony S350. Firmware issues are just one of the negatives you have to accept on occasion for many of the standalone players. Basically, any player that is not the Sony PS3 might have a few BDs that don't play on it or play well.

The Robe looks nice.
Only just noticed this thread. Yes, apart from the central area, that scene has matte work surrounding it so presumably that has resulted in a slightly unstable central image.

Mind you I've seen the same sort of problem - a jerkiness on parts of the image - on many older films on DVD which has nothing to do with mattes but is some sort of artifact, although I forget the technical explanation or name for it.

I have the S350 and The Robe played fine for me. I have updated the firmware once though. Can't remember which version.

Check Sony's website and download the latest one.

I wouldn't mind buying this (in the UK). I don't understand Fox, they region locked this, & as far as I can see didn't release it in any other country, & they're probably wondering why it didn't sell more copies.

I also am curious about that release. The set I have is the 2 Feature Film set of The Bible and The Robe in 2 separate discs in 1 case. I am more than happy with it but was just curious about this March 2014 release. Maybe just a new cover?

Default "The Robe Times Two: A Comparison of Widescreen and Standard Versions"

In the special feature "The Robe Times Two: A Comparison of Widescreen and Standard Versions", how does one bring up the audio for the picture-in-picture? I was unable to do so any way I tried, and with the film historian's comments, it seems rather pointless if there is no audio for the P in P. Also what exactly would the video file for the P in P 4x3 version be on the disc? I tried to locate it for possibly trying to view it by itself without seeing the widescreen version, but was unable to do so. Please point it out to me as to what the file(s) for it are on the disc, and mainly how to turn on the audio for the P in P. Thanks.

No - definitive Code A
so you must have a codefree Player

It's still a big shame that Fox didn't release this movie in the European Area (UK/Germany etc.) or at least having it codefree with (for me) german track like "Fantastic Voyage" or "How Green was the Valley".

Picked up the 65mm double feature The Bible: In the Beginning/The Robe [2 Discs] for $5.99 at Best Buy. Seems like a steal at that price

The special features sound amazing:

[Show spoiler]The Music of 'The Robe:' Alfred Newman's Score is an isolated audio track where dialogue and sound effects are removed, allowing listeners to enjoy the famed score alone. The track is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1. Introduction by Martin Scorsese (1080p, 1:20) features the director briefly recounting the CinemaScope process and the restoration the film underwent. Next is The Making of 'The Robe' (1080p, 31:23), a fascinating and in-depth piece that recounts the story-behind-the-story, beginning by looking at the transition of book-to-film, the property's changing hands between RKO and 20th Century Fox, the many names attached to it, the era of Hollywood blacklisting, the religious makeup of the cast and crew, the performances of the cast, the sequel, and more.

The CinemaScope Story (1080p, 18:39) looks at the CinemaScope technique and how it helped save Hollywood from the brink of insignificance due to the influx of television. From Scripture to Script: The Bible and Hollywood (1080p, 24:39) looks at the influence of the Bible on Hollywood and the staying power of Scripture-as-theme in film. Audio Interview With Screenwriter Philip Dunne (1969) (1080p, 22:23) features the writer recounting the importance of The Robe and its place in cinema history. 'The Robe' Times Two: A Comparison of Widescreen and Standard Versions is a BonusView (Blu-ray profile 1.1) supplement that features an examination of the differences between the two versions of The Robe, differences that span more than the aspect ratio of the film. Interview clips and behind-the-scenes images set the stage for the many visual comparisons between the two versions via a picture-in-picture window. The best piece on the disc and one of the better features yet on Blu-ray, it allows for a fascinating study in film history and a look at how varied processes and takes result in sometimes radically differing tones between two versions. Lastly, Advertising 'The Robe' rounds out the special features. Included are Vintage Celebrity Introductions (480p, 1:35), five segments from Fox Movietone News, a pair of theatrical trailers (480p, 2:04 & 2:30), an interactive pressbook, a poster gallery, lobby cards, and publicity stills.

I don't know this to be the case here, but Fox usually is notorious for merely repackaging existing releases. So, whatever extras were on the original releases are likely on the discs in the double pack too.

Bought the original disc at least six or seven years ago. Just tried to replay it but the disc has gone bad and starts to freeze around chapter 14 or so. Anyone else have problems?

Just rewatched it in my Sony player. Didn't have any freezing, etc, but the English subtitles came up automatically which was a bit odd. I think this has some of that complex coding that Fox experimented with that players stopped supporting like Sunshine where they had to send out replacement discs to everyone.
