my tv came yesturday. It is the Phillip 47" 1080p 120hz. My first movie? the dark knight. i realized that perhap when the picture is too clear, it feel cheap in a way. I feel like i'm watching the news, i put the mode in movie but it would only help a bit. It's just so crystal clear it's sickening.
However i freaking love Wall-e, so animate is okay to be clear but when i watch a movie with real people, it just disgusting. Maybe i should get use to this?> it's like a whole new experience good and bad all at the same time. What your thought on this? |

No, you can. There should be an option to turn it on or off somewhere in your settings. I usually keep it on for football games, but other than that it makes things look really weird.

Actually, no you can't. 120hz is the refresh rate of the TV so it's not something you can turn off and on. What makes Blu-rays look weird on a 120hz HDTV is the motion enhancer that's a setting on the TV (MotionFlow, Natural Motion or what have you.) that can be turned off and on.

I absolutely love the motion enhancer myself and so do all of my friends/coworkers. It gives the feeling as if your standing behind that camera watching it all happen right in front of you. I will agree it does suck when it makes it so realistic that you can easily tell when they used special effects(like Harvey Dents face on fire in DK) or even if they did it green screen on a stage but overall i feel it's totally worth it and it will only push the next generation of special effects that much further.

paying extra for a 120htz tv is a waste. Makes the freakn movie look live...like its being filmed right in front of you! The only thing the 120htz is good for is sports...like football. And yes you can turn off the motion flow...just read your manuel or go throught your settings.

It's the green-screen effect!
It's not apparent on animated movies. But the motion-flow during real movies gets really, really annoying. That's why I'm kind of glad I went with the 60Hz for 3-400 bucks less. It definitely helps with movies like Kung Fu Panda though. ![]() |

Threads and FUD comments/replies about 120hz looking like "soap operas" is especially prevalent now since 120hz TVs are starting to become more common. Typically all the people who reply with FUD remarks don't even own a 120hz TV.
I have two TVs that utilize 120hz technology and it does help with judder being it's 5:5 pulldown rather than 3:2. I know my Sony XBR4 can't turn off 120 refresh rate and I assume my Samsung 750 is the same. But both, and I assume like all other manufacturers using 120hz, will allow you to turn off ALL POST PROCESSING video features like Cinemotion, Auto Motion Plus, Film Enhancement, Motion Enhancer... etc. Read your manual or check out AVS forum for your particular model. |

True but some people might also be saying the motion-flow that comes with the 120 Hz contributes to the price difference. That's what I was saying, because why pay more when you won't even use some of the benefits that the TV advertises...

This has nothing to do with price and personal preferences of a TVs usage. Common sense dictates that everyone has personal preferences and usage for a TV. Some like it for gaming, others like it for sports and some are primarily movie watching. 120Hz technology does in fact help with judder, how much and can the average non-videophile discern a difference? That's up to each person to decide and determine whether the additional cost is worth it. |
