Default Primarily using PS3 for watching movies?

In light of a group seeing how many Blu Ray players there are compared to HD DVD and not counting the PS3 as a Blu Ray Player I have deceided to do a poll.

Four or so times a week, I think its stupid that some hd dvd fanboys dont count the ps3 as a blu ray player. My aunt and uncle have two ps3's that are blu ray and only, and my fiance and I mainly use ours as a blu ray player, of course it will finally play games this fall, but so far its mainly for blu ray.

Bought one in April, primarily as a Blu Ray player. Don't really bother with games, I got 3 in my bundle, and have sold them now.

Might get the odd games in future, but it's movies I'm interested in, and now have 22 Blu Ray discs and counting.

It's ridiculous not to count it as a Blu Ray player.

It's also considered one of the best players on the market quality wise, gaming and its other features aside. 'Techies' know this too. I cant tell you the number of stories I have heard of people buying PS3s for just the Bluray feature that have no intention of playing games.

I purchased mine in December when it was by far the least expensive blu-ray player on the market. As a plus it can play games. I own a couple of games and have actually managed to load one of them up a couple of times..

I use it for movies 99% of the time.

I bought mine the first week it came out, solely to play games. The blu-ray player was basically an after-thought in the purchase. I didn't start using it as a bluy-ray player until about a month or two ago when I started seeing them show up on shelves at local stores. After I experienced the quality of the video's and the fact that there weren't any really good ps3 games out at the time, (I had already beat Obilivion, R:FOM, and Spider-Man 3) I started spending my money on blu-ray discs. Now I can't even play WoW without a blu-ray playing in the background. In fact I am watching/listening to "Fantastic 4" as I type.

I bought mine back in february. I bought it because I do play games albeit not as hardcore as some other gamers (usually only 3-4 hrs during the week, broken up) and I loved my ps2, but also for the blu ray disc playing aspect. It's the perfect machine for me. I play games a few times a week and I watch Blu Rays a few times a week. I even watch my reg DVD's on it now.

For the most part, the naysayers who say the ps3 shouldnt be counted as a standalone bluray player, and that ps3 owners 'dont use it to watch movies' is ridiculous.

EVERYONE i know who owns one has purchased blu rays on top of any free discs that are offered. My dad even bought one for himself when they dropped the price STRICTLY for watching movies after he came over one night and I popped in The first POTC movie. to say he was impressed would be an understatement 'how much does the ps3 cost?' He asked immediately after watching it.. lol

W hen i called him about the price drop last week he ran right out and bought one and is ecstatic with it.

I use my PS3 for Blu-Ray movies 100% of the time. As it works perfectly for what I need.

why would you buy a stand alone BD player, when you can do so much more w/ a ps3? i don't even use my regular DVD player anymore since the ps3 upconverts regular DVD's for me. the blu-ray player in my ps3 was well worth the 36 hours i stood in line for the damn thing, playing game is just an added bonus.

this is exactly how I feel...

I don't play games too often...except lately where I finally started playing Resistance online and I have Ninja Gaiden Sigma with no recent movie purchases until 300 and then Weeds season 2..

It really is, but you can't help but understand their reasoning. Not everybody who owns a PS3 has even an HDTV. Good poll though. You should have expanded the choices. I'm really 2-3 a month. And I use mine mostly for movies.

I think most people that own a PS3 and regularly contribute here at Blu-ray.com are people that routinely use it for watching movies. That being said, I'm not sure how anybody will take anything meaningful from the results of this poll. Now if the poll was taken on a gamer site...

I do not have a Blu Ray Player yet as you can see by my signiture, but when I get one it will most likely be a PS3. I will probably be watching Blu movies on it more than 90% of the time, Metal Gear Solid 4 being PS3 exclusive isn't a bad deal either.

Between work, my fam, and playing NCAA, I can only watch blu-rays on it like once or maybe twice a week.
