Default Help watching movies on a PS3 running at 1080p/24

Hi
I have an IN76 projector connected to a PS3 via HDMI and am trying to watch Blu-Ray discs at 24 fps but when I set the PS3 to output 1080p at 24hz the video flickers and is not entirely synced with itself... This projector is supposed to support 1080p/24... Does anyone have any suggestions or explanations? Thanks!

Isn't that a 720p not 1080p projector? (??)

well, couple questions?

what hdmi cable are you using?
do you run it through a receiver first?

It is a 720p projector, but I still would prefer to watch the movie at it's native framerate.

The projector is plugged directly to the PS3 HDMI output. I have a receiver hooked up via optical.

OK, I just don't know offhand if the PS3 supports 720p24 ... anyone?

Addendum:
Oh I see, the projector is supposed to accept a 1080p24 input and display it as 720p24.

looking at the information packet

I see it states

Compatiblity
"Video: Component and RGB HDTV (720p, 1035i, 1080i, 1080p-24Hz), 24p."

since the ps3 cannot send 1080p via component, that leaves "RGB HDTV"...but is that meaning DVI input??

The HDMI cable is a 6ft cable that came with my OPPO DVD player. It works perfectly on both my PS3 and DVD player (except for this 24hz issue)

Right, it is unclear exactly what the specs are referring to when it says that it supports 24hz -- but I assumed it meant digitally... it's pretty useless otherwise...

...also im wondering, because there are two types of HDMI cables....

category 1 and category 2.

assuming its for use with a standard dvd player it may be a category 1 cable. Which is 1080i only (but may even perform at 1080p...but throing in the 24Hz may give it some trouble?)

I was going to use the built in downscaler of the IN76 to bring it down from 1080p to 720p. At 720p/60hz it looks as good or better than the PS3 downscaled version...

I see, I have to look into this I guess...

Could "RGB HDTV" be VGA? (??) It does sound weird, I've never heard of anything sending a 24Hz signal over component.

are you using a reciever? (if the receiver does not support 24Hz, it will not pass it. Or if your receiver does support it, you may have to enable it?)

well, im looking at the supported formats in the reference guide...pg. 35 and it says HDMI supports 1080p/24Hz...

so maybe its in the ps3 setting? or cable issue (which is unlikely most of the time) or even a setting somewhere in your projector?

I'm sending the video signal straight into the projector (from the PS3). The receiver is only for audio, via optical.

There really isn't much option in the PS3 settings... It's either on or off, or auto.

odd that you say that and I read this...pg.24

Sync Threshold Adjust: (progressive signals only) If a hardware device, such as a DVD player, is not syncing properly with the projector, adjust this option to help it to sync when connected to the projector.

The projector is reading it a 24hz -- when I check the input settings. There are not really any options. And any that might possibly make a difference, I've tried playing around with. (same with the PS3). I've used multiple disks also. Something is just not syncing up...

I'll check it. Thanks. Enjoy your dinner!
