Default Is there a player that does BOTH Dolby Vision and HDR-10?

Gang, is there a player that does both Dolby Vision and HDR-10 and do them WELL? I currently have the Panasonic UB900 and am running it through a Vizio P75-C1(which is an AMAZING tv, btw), but the Panny only does HDR-10.

Thanks in advance!!

Your only options at this point are the Oppo 203 or 205, or the LG 970.
The LG is waiting for a FW update that got put on hold, there's a glitch evidently.

If you've been spoiled by the quality picture on the Panny, the Oppo would be your better choice. And the Oppo will continue to get future firmware upgrades over time to keep it up to date. Only drawback is no streaming apps, but the HDMI-IN just got updated to accept HDR10, so ROKU or whatever you have can be attached.

Ps. Love your avatar

In regards to the LG UP970, there are a few things you should know. It is the cheapest option of the three, but still provides excellent image quality IMO. However, it is built with cheaper materials, and the player can produce noticeable noise at times (at least mine does). Noise levels seem to vary from disc to disc; the majority of the time, it's a non-issue.

LG did release the Dolby Vision firmware for this player last month, but it was quickly pulled back, presumably because some people were experiencing issues. I guess I was one of the lucky ones, because Dolby Vision discs have worked flawlessly for me. The player also has Netflix and YouTube apps, although both only support HDR10 at the moment.

We are not sure when the Dolby Vision firmware will be re-released for this player. So if you did decide to get it, you would have to wait a bit. Of course, you could watch HDR10 content in the meantime.

The OP has a UB900, it already does HDR10.
Oppo’s Models have been out for some time playing DV media. The DV operation was present so people could watch Despicable Me 4k, and Despicable Me 2 4K June 6th when it was released. LG player has been significantly slower getting the DV update going on their player, then when there are some issues they yank it. OPPO never done that with any player.

I know. I was just trying to say that the LG wouldn't be completely useless while he waited for the DV firmware.

There are people in this forum claiming that the LG Blu-ray player received a firmware update for Dolby Vision. LG must have pulled the firmware update since now even LG's website mentioned a future software update is coming.

Geoff, I know you have the Panny like I do. Does not having Dolby Vision irk you at all? I'm thinking of either getting the OPPO or maybe the LG(as a second player, just for DV). What do you think? I value your opinion, my friend.

Well, I have the DV update and I rather like it. However, on occasion it does vibrate. It's not loud at all, but still. I was going to take it back to BB and go with the Sony player, but after finding out it will not get the DV firmware I won't be getting it. I'll either wait for a better player with DV or if the budget becomes friendlier, splurge for the Oppo.

Splurge! once you go with that beefy black oppo, you never go back!. I dipped my toes in the oppo waters back during the 93 series, and yep, it ruined me. I can't even look at any other player now.

In all seriousness though, at this stage, in my eyes, the only 4k player worth having is the oppo. My 93 only recently stopped playing discs after 7 years of more use than i care to admit. and its currently with oppo for a $79.99 fix that should buy it many more years to come. Haven't had any media player last that long before, so for me and my viewing habits at least, it paid for itself just by lasting twice as long as the samsung and sony i had prior. I know it's a pricey item, but the buy once cry once saying really is true in this case.

My $80 Sony S5100 has lasted five years or so without a hitch. I really don't think durability is a selling point of the Oppo machines; Just doesn't make sense cost-analysis wise. It's more the added features and reportedly excellent support you're paying for, from what I have read.

I'd like to get a look at the OPPO but I'm not of the opinion that they're God's gift to disc spinning (I had a 95 and wasn't impressed at all) so I can think of better things to do with £650 (plus another ton for the MR mod).

Not having DV doesn't irk me at all because my TV can't currently do DV anyway. When the TV finally gets the promised DV update then I'll buy an LG for cheap, they've already dropped as low as £150 for an Amazon warehouse deal so when they hit a ton (and they will) I'll pick one up.

Philips BDP7302 & Philips BDP7502 support Dolby Vision.

The PQ is pretty good and it upscales like a monster. It's a good player overall. Just the vibrating sound bugs me even though it's not loud. Don't think I can justify spending so much on the Oppo to the husband. I've got a 4 yr warranty so I'm not in any hurry to trade it in. Something better will come a long.

The vibration issue would be the optical loader speed control governed by FW. Much higher RPM is used with UHD BD playback.

The construction of the player where the optical loader resides in can help dampen these vibrations.

I've already got an isolation platform because UHD's increased RPM makes any 4K player vibrate like a bastard when it's put directly onto my glass TV stand, hopefully that will reduce the noise from the LG if/when I get one.

All 4K UltraHD Blu-ray players will do HDR10 since that is mandatory. Dolby Vision HDR and Philips HDR are optional features that are part of the official BDA specs.

The Cambridge CXUHD for $699.99 is coming soon, however its $150 more money than the OPPO UDP-203 and the Cambridge has no analog audio outputs.

Philips plans on offering a Dolby Vision HDR firmware update in the future. So far no Blu-ray players or optical discs are offering the Philips HDR format.

In theory in 2018 all 2nd generation and 3rd generation 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players will offer the Dolby Vision HDR feature.
