This was initially released by American International Pictures, but I imagine the rights to this and its sequel are controlled by Max Baer J.R and director Richard Compton (currently through his estate since his death in 2007). If that were the case, then it would explain them licencing the 1st film to Anchor Bay in 2000 (expired) and then Warner Home Video in '08, meaning the last of WB's rights have just expired with Shout now having them.

It's there with films like Walking Tall, Framed and Burt's 70's redneck action films.
Probably not quite as good as those though. It hits a noticeable lull at one point... I love the song at the end with Bobbie Gentry though. |

Hopefully they can get the old AB extras and commentary.
Maybe a new interview with Max Baer Jr. |

Quite by chance, I found out months ago this was forthcoming and am glad (and a bit disappointed) by the announcement. To explain:
A longtime collector of original movie posters (well before blu-rays, actually a few years before VHS!) who sells a few extras on eBay, I had a winner on this one: ![]() In sending a thanks/ship email I thought I recognized a name from the biz and mentioned something like "in case you're the same person, thanks for years of great releases". It was and he indicated this would be possibly be used in an upcoming release. I kept the secret like a champ and eagerly awaited a good release of this sleeper hit I'd seen in a McComb, MS drive-in when new. Thing is, you'll see that this is an elusive combo one sheet with the sequel. I didn't want to ask at the time and appear too pushy, but I began to think maybe both were coming. I had at least had decent oar DVDs of the original but the sequel has been missing since the VHS days. In seeing it again a couple of years ago, I imagine that it's the dreaded music rights since its full of pop hits of the day. So after a few months of doubtful hoping, here we are. Glad to have this coming but still long for the sequel to see the light of blu day. And still excited that the one sheet ended up being used. Last edited by Fred Sliman; 10-08-2017 at 10:15 AM. |

Also, it sounds funny to call such a cult item as Macon County Line "the hit" of a year that also premiered such storied titles as Godfather II, Chinatown, The Towering Inferno, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Blazing Saddles, and Death Wish. ![]() |
