I know Warner's has gotten alot of criticism on their blu-ray quality, mostly because they are released on BD-25, American History X is gonna be released on a BD-50, does that mean there's hope that this might be a proper release?

He's probably referring to the release including lossless audio, and I agree with that. Even though I doubt there would be much difference, if any at all, between lossless and a 640 kbps Dolby track on a dialog-driven movie like American History X. But still, it's the principle involved. These companies want premium prices for what should be a premium product.
Also, it'd be nice if more of the special features were encoded in HD -- where applicable, of course. |

Spoilers....
[Show spoiler] There was a huge controversy with this film between the studios, the director, and Ed Norton. Tony Kaye didn't like the studios and his star meddling with his creativity and disowned the whole flick and Ed Norton was hired to replace Kaye and edit the movie himself. Kaye to this day has said he still wants nothing to do with the film. I love it regardless, but would be interested in seeing the original ending, though I'm pretty sure Kaye never got to shoot it. edit: Ironically New Line Cinema is supposed to be working with Kaye on releasing a documentary he made about his struggle with the film called "Humpty Dumpty" sometime this year. Humpty Dumpty is the name Kaye chose when he tried to have his name removed from the credits and they told him to change it, so he did, but then the Directors Guild refused to allow it, so its as is now. im glad that they are using a bd-50 disc for this, so they will have absolutely no excuse to not include special features, a solid audio track, and a phenominal picture. should be interesting to see how good it looks on my plasma with all those black and white shots.....
a little trivia, did anyone know that the girlfriend in the movie is the same girl from the little known 80's movie Return to Oz? talk about working from one end of the spectrum to the other. lol |

This is a fantastic film, which would do well with a good transfer. It's not the easiest film to watch for some, but the message, and way it's portrayed is very emotional.
Such as Waterboy. |
