Updated: Mamma Mia! Offers a Blu-ray First, Details Announced
October 29, 2008

Update: An official announcement has been made by the studio which fills out the extra features, detailed below, and confirms a slipcover and second disc with a digital copy will be included.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release the $140 million box office hit Mamma Mia! The Movie December 16 on Blu-ray Disc, day-and-date with DVD.

Mamma Mia! will be presented in widescreen 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

A new twist is being put on commentaries with a Blu-ray exclusive sure to turn heads. With Mamma Mia!, it will be possible to record a video commentary while watching the film and then share that commentary with friends.

There are some missing details to how this creative use of Blu-ray's abilities will work. First, we assume any standard web cam will work with a standalone player and the Playstation Eye with PS3 but nothing has been confirmed. Second, will the commentary replay be a standalone video or play picture-in-picture with the film? We don't know yet.

In addition to BD-Live access and U-Control, other confirmed features are as follows with more to be announced.

Universal needs to stop being so 'effin' vague on the disc's supplements, just announce all the extras, come on, it aint THAT hard. Is the US version a BD-25 or BD-50 disc?

Okay I've searched high and low but every commercial says its only available on DVD/Blu-Ray for a Limited Time Only.

Um Why? Is it just some sales ploy so everyone buys it week 1?

That confused me and I figured someone on here might know what the hell they're talking about.

Any DVD/Blu-ray release featuring a "digital copy" is for a limited time only. Once the digital copies expire (about a year or so after release), these movies will be re-issued without the digital copy disc.

I didn't get it on blu yet, but it will join my other blus for sure.

I watched the movie with my gf, first 30min of the movie I was like "wtf is this, this can't b right, I gotta sit for another hour of this ?" but after the movie ended I was laughing at the scenes and singin along for liek next two days This movie starts out weird, but at the end u end up lovin it. But I think u get better reaction to the movie if u know the abba songs.

I did it! I brought Mamma Mia. It didnt hurt either.

My wife is going to have a movie night with the girls and wanted to watch that. So, I bit the bullet, went to the ole Best Buy and bought it.

Phew...I did it and I dont feel bad about doing it.
