The "floating window" effect is pretty strong in this 3D presentation. I had to force myself to not look at the giant black bar that often appears on the left side of the screen.

Other than that, this is a great 3D disc!

Of course my first viewing was in the daytime and I usually watch 3D at night in a very dark room. I will give it one more viewing and this time at night. From all the news and the way everyone is talking I thought this may very well be the last home 3D DVD available so I jumped on it. So disappointed with this effect despite liking the movie.
One main reason they add that black bar on the left or right edge of the screen in certain shots is to clean up visual confusion when a character is standing at the edge of the screen. Without that bar there, you'll see some of the image, while the rest of it would be offscreen, as the eyes try to adjust to the missing part. To me it's not a big deal, but I see why they feel they need to add the black bars in those rare shots. I remember first really hearing complaints about these occasional letter box edge bars in Captain America 1, The First Avenger. Some animated CGI films use this editing technique too.

Yeah, I have no problem with it, it just took my eyes a few minutes to adjust. But I can see how some people would think that the disc is faulty or that something is wrong with their TV/glasses.

AMC theaters also gave out this figure to their STUBS members when they saw the film.

Watched the first half of the movie with the family.

This a phenomenal disc, with great color/detail/3D. Sony hit this out of the park.

The movie also has alot of heart, so far it's 100x better than Civil War.

Only ding is that sound is only 5.1 and not Atmos...but that's a game practically the whole Industry is playing now.

The Sony people, and FOX and WB too, they think that people using a 55" OLED 4K TV with the stereo speakers on their TVs they deserve a Dolby Atmos audio encoded.
But the people using a 3D front projector with twelve speakers all around they don't need or deserve a 3D immersive surround audio soundtrack from Dolby Atmos.

They got their marbles all in the wrong places.

3D isn't going away anytime soon......just a lot of doom and gloom talk but it is declining. As for the black bars.....they're only distracting if you focus on them. When they are there then there's probably some great 3D action going on and if you focus on that you won't even notice the bars. If you look for the bars then yes you will see them. I find if I'm focused on the picture itself I don't even notice them at all.
Here's a link to some good discussion about this from the GOTG2 thread. Bavanut explains it pretty well.

I have never noticed this in ANY film... You’re talking about vertical letter box bars like you see on a 4:3 SD image? Could it be TV specific?

I purchased the 3D version and streamed it from Vudu and watched the 3D Blu-ray last night and didn’t notice it either time.

Yes, it's total shady BS. Even the regular BD doesn't get Atmos now.

So they're trying to force everyone to buy 4K UHD just for good sound.

But the 7.1 Atmos track is identical to those already found on other BDs.

I wonder what the regular BD people on the Main Boards are saying?

It's rare to see companies obviously gimp their own products...so lame.

For movies with 3D, I'm still buying 3D. Atmos be damned.

I think someone posted screenshots one time to capture the effect.

Think it's like a slight window-box effect with a small black boarder on edge of screen.

I've never seen it in action because...I'm sort of watching the movie.

This kind of thing doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I notice floating windows all the time, I can't not notice them. But they don't bother me in the slightest, they're there for a reason after all.

Only time I notice them is when I'm looking for them. I usually watch 3D in a darkened room at night, can't see where the edge of the television is. Plasma does do black very well.

What type of display are you watching on? Your TV may be over-scanning the image and slightly cropping the edges of the picture.

In a dark room it is almost impossible to see floating windows on an OLED. The 100% black borders have no light emission because the pixels turn completely off producing 100% black, giving the same effect as screen masking panels.

I've gone through the trouble of attempting to sync two different players (one playing atmos, the primary player spinning the 3D disc) just to get the best of both worlds. I end up stopping it at some point if they're not in perfect sync since that's too distracting. But I agree completely it's an alarming and disappointing trend. I suspect it's done on purpose to push 4k. WB used to have Atmos on all their 3D movies, but stopped upon the release of Fantastic Beasts and have never gone back.
The best workaround is activating Neural X for the DTS-HS MA. I tried it with Homecoming and it sounded great, maybe nearly as good as Atmos, but I'm awaiting on my 4k disc so I can do an A/B comparison. This may be the best option going forward.

I have a 65” Samsung JS9500 and a 55” LG C6 but use the Samsung for 3D because I prefer the active shutter glasses.

I can’t recall seeing in movie theaters either... Is is there at the cinema as well?

I'm surprised you prefer active over passive glasses. Total opposite for me. Can't stand the batteries, flickering, and weight of the glasses.

Anyways, I watched this on my LG C6 and the bars were definitely visible. Maybe try watching on that.

I didn't see this in theaters, so I can't speak to that.

The bars are visible for me in the daytime when the room is not dark. Also notice that the black bar in a variable floating window is only present on one side of the screen for one eye-view only. The other eye will see either a moving bar on the other side of the screen or the whole aspect ratio (no bar) at the same time.
