So the "cool to hate George Lucas" fad is over? It's Tarantino now?

Or is it just "cool" to hate any film, director, or actor that's successful?

Like him or not, Pulp Fiction changed the way movies are made and is one of the most influential films since Citizen Kane. I'm not saying he was the first person to make a movie like Pulp Fiction, but the effect that movie had on moviemaking is undeniable.

the thing about pulp fiction is that is was a first, no one had ever made a movie quite like that, so to really understand the impact of that movie, you would have had to seen it in the theater when it first came out. now breaking the mold has almost become the mold, so yeah its just another movie, but back then, it was amazing. i think tarintino just has been unable to move past that and come up with something new, since groundbreaking style is what first attracted people to his films. resevoir dogs was good, but it was more like a prequel in terms of style to pulp fiction.

Bingo. In my personal opinion, both Tarantino and Lucas are great filmmakers who have set their names in stone forever.

Thats hard to believe since his "style" is a conglomeration of a number of his predesessors. He is not origional by any stretch of the imagination. The only thing remotely origional is that he has ripped off techniques from mutiple directors and combined them.

Some times you can see where a director has been influenced by another, QT is not that subtle and his work wreaks of blatant theft.

I am not a "hater" because its cool or trendy. I sat in the theater shaking my head at the garbage that is Pulp Fiction on opening weekend.

He isnt awful behind the camera, but his storytelling abilities are crap, at best.

squidpuppet, you don't have to like him, but if you've actually ever seen these movies and think Tarantino can't tell a compelling story both with a fantastic script and solid directing you're wrong. That's really it.

Its not HIM I dont like. I dont know him, therefore I can neither like nor dislike him.

His work speaks for itself. Rediculously simple minded POOP. Spoonfed violence with empty stories. You can agree with me or not, as will others. However, I happen to know that I am right and anyone disagreeing with me is wrong. Dont make it complicated, its very simple.

Don't think he's over-rated just probably suffers from putting out a very good albeit different style movie with Pulp Fiction and now everyone expects all of them to be just the same. A bit like M. Night with the Sixth Sense and his other movies that didnt quite live up........I have to say I love Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill 1 & 2.......Jackie Brown was OK and for some reason I can't stand Death Proof.....

when I say 'him', I mean his work.

I don't really see it as being any more spoonfed than, well, any other movie. And though there is violence there is far far less than your average action movie.

and it's ridiculous.

I am just being a sarcastic bastard. I dont like his movies, but its because I just dont like his style. There are directors out there that I like a lot and if they made a bad movie I would probably like it just because I like their style (Aronofsky). I guess the same is true in reverse when it comes to QT, he could make a gem and I'd hate it because his style would be present.

I do however stand by my statement about Pulp Fiction being an influence on cinema. It was a blowout success, but nobody made films any differently because they were influenced by Pulp or QT.

his influence comes much more from Resevoir Dogs, but he was just a part of what was happening with independents in the early 90s. I wouldn't call him directly influencial in any other way either, just that he's succesful and with that comes some level of inherent influence.

I love Aranofsky too. I can't wait to see The Wrestler.

Well Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill are two of my favorite releases. I like the Grindhouse stuff and the rest of his catalog. I do not think Tarantino is overrated at all. I always look forward to what he does next.
