Default Backlight harmful?

Is it harmful to the life of the television to have the backlight turned all the way to 10? i have heard that it could decrease the life of the picture, but I like the backlight turned all the way on - the dynamic picture on my samsung LN40A650.

A LCD at full blast will last between 45k-65k hours. The heat may cause some issues, I've seen a few issues with Samsung LCDs shutting themselves down when they get too hot.

I would never tell anyone to juice their backlight...I think you should set it to 5 or 6 and Dynamic Contrast to High

Why? Are you planning on using it as a grow-light or something?

That's half-life, the time it will take the set to loose half it's original brightness.

Average of 50,000 hours half-life / 4 hours viewing a day / 365 days a year = 34 years, assumin you're watching 2 daily movies. Turn it up as bright as you want, I'd say. It'll be at least a decade before you notice that the picture at store-display-100% brightness isn't as bright, much less the backlight alone.
