I've never posted here before, so I hope this is the right place for my question. If not, please feel free to move it to wherever it's supposed to go.
I've had my Samsung BD E5700 blu ray player since 2012, and I've never had any significant issues with it. However, I recently bought the UK blu rays of Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, and they both skipped. However, it wasn't the way discs normally skip. Normally, if a disc skips, it will happen at the same point every time, but this was different. It would skip, and then I would rewind it a bit, and the part that skipped would play through with no problem. Then if I would take it out and put it back in, it would do the same thing, but it would skip at different points than when I played it the first time. Both sets did this, so I returned them, and I bought the US version of season 2, and it did the same thing. So I'm pretty sure it's my blu ray player rather than the discs, but the strange thing is that it's never done this with any other discs. So basically my question is this: does anybody have any idea what could be going on? Is it possible that my blu ray player is just incompatible with those specific blu rays for some reason, or is this a sign that my blu ray player is starting to die (even though it still doesn't do that with any other discs)? Or does that sound like it could be the discs, even though it happened with 3 different sets? I don't know much about this stuff, so any help you guys can give is much appreciated. Thanks! |

First check the firmware to see if there's an update. If your player is no longer supported, I'd suggest it might be time to look for a replacement. Secondly if you can try the discs in another player, if they play fine, your Samsung's BD laser may be on it's way out.

Thanks for the response! I tried updating the firmware, but it said there weren't any updates to download. I also tried playing one of the discs in another BD player, and they seemed to work fine. I've played other discs in my player since then, and I haven't had any problems with any of them. It's just those, and that's what's I'm finding so inexplicable. If it is the player, could it really start by not being able to play only a very select few discs correctly?

Your blu-ray player is almost 6 years old and it's beginning to have functionality problems, so it's probably time to get a new one. It's been well used, but you can still keep it as a back up. 1080p Blu-ray players are dirt cheap, you can buy one for $100.00 or less. Black Friday is coming up, and there are going to be some good deals on standard 1080p and 4K blu-ray players.

Once your player starts having issues with newer discs, it's probably time to think about moving it to a room where it will be used less and buying a new player. |
