As an NFL fan, I just can't fathom some of these numbers thrown at players! I think 7-year, $50mill contracts are too much!

i'm ok with no cap in baseball. they pay a luxury tax..and clearly paying 200 million out to a bunch of all stars doesn't bring you anything.

I hate to wish injuries upon baseball players but the Yankees are taking the competition out of baseball with all these big player signings. Curse the yanks!

Me too. Just look at recent history:

This past season, Rays in the World Series, with the 2nd lowest payroll in the league.

Year before that, Rockies in the World Series, with the 6th lowest payroll in the league.

If there's a reason to blame the Yankees, blame them for being lucky enough to be in NY. Bigger market = bigger revenue = bigger payroll.

If money could really buy World Series titles, the Yankees would be up to 34 by now, and going for their 12th consecutive one this season.

This is why I get so giddy when they fail in the playoffs. Makes my year.

its absurd that today you can still try and buy a championship in a major league sport. i hope the rays repeat in the AL east.

HAAHAHA I love it.. these teams try to buy championships and they STILL LOSE! GO Rays.. Yankees will still suck eggs and the RedSux are not far behind them.
Much respect to actual managers and GM's who actually know how to build a team! ANYONE can build a team by buying players.. YANKEE front office has NO TALENT whatsoever... and they will continue to lose.

Did the Yankees make the playoffs this past post season! LMMFAO!

The Yankees are spending over $400 million on free agents, yet are asking the city of New York, which is in horrible financial shape, for more money for their stadium. I've never understood why cities pay any money for stadiums. If the city of New York had refused to pay any money for the Yankees new stadium would the Yankees have threatened to move? Of course not, yet each year cities are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on new stadiums.
A little off topic, but I cannot understand why Minnesota is paying for a new football stadium for the University of Minnesota and a new baseball stadium for the Twins, and likely will be building a new stadium for the Vikings soon. Why not build one stadium for all three, or at least have the football teams share? Seems like a waste of money.

Nope. I rather they spent the money on Tex. I doubt they will go for Manny too.

Still some dead weight in that lineup though. No center fielder and too many corner outfielders.

you must misunderstand what i'm saying. i hate the yankees. i don't care who they sign. they aren't buying a world series by signing these players

On October 30, Albert won the Fielding Bible Award for defensive excellence at first base for the third consecutive year (2006-2008). He is the only player to win this award all three years of its existence.[38] Gold Gloves are voted on by MLB managers and coaches, but the Fielding Bible Awards are determined by a panel of 10 experts in advanced statistical analysis. Also, one Gold Glove is awarded for each position in each league (18 total), whereas one Fielding Bible Award is given each position, period (9 total). In announcing Albert's 2006 win, the award webpage noted, "It's amazing to think that the best hitter of this generation is also the best fielding player at his position."[39] The 2008 vote was close, though, with 5 first-place votes going to Albert and 4 to Mark Teixeira (ATL-LAA).[40] [41]

id rather have pujols than tex any day.

anyways. tex is a very good player, but he is not worth that type of money.

my predictions for next year with the yanks.

* they will not sign pettite or manny and will trade either matsui, swisher or nady.

* cc will not be as potent as he was last year with the brewers, i see a 17-9 record with an era in the 3 area. still a very good year, but no cy young and certainly not worth the $$$ the yanks are paying.

* aj is hurt for a good period of next year.

* tex hits .330+, utlizing the short porch of yankees stadium he hits 43 hr with 130+ rbis.

* a-rod has an mvp season and is possibly sitting 4th on the all-time HR list by the end of next year.

* jeter is jeter

* marino starts to show his age and has a career high in BS.

* wang is decent and the yankees show major starting pitching issues still, due to injuries. but it is better than last year.

* Red Sox still win the division and the Yankees barely get a WC spot from the Rays and Twins, and they fall to the Sox in 6 in the ALCS.

Can't figure out why the Angels didn't drop Guerreo (spelling sorry) and match Texeira. But I guess good for the Yanks, apparently they need the help. (sarcasm)

The amount of money being given to players is simply staggering. And I don't fault the Yankees. I told my son maybe he should start thinking about playing a little baseball... you just never know.
