Default Question about upscalling

I have a Sony BDP-S350 and whenever I play DVD's, I see lot of grain in the picture. The Blu-ray player suppose to upscale DVD's to 1080p...shouldn't that eliminate some of the grain? It's not even just the acceptable amount of grain...but there is a very noticeable amount of grain which sort of deters me from viewing the movie. Especially the 'Adaptation' DVD which is a Superbit DVD. I don't see this amount of grain when I view the movie from a DVD player, but once I put it in my blu-ray player, the grain is much more noticeable. Any thoughts??
thank you

thank you
It will not eliminate grain... however, it also depends on the movie itself also. if a film is turning out grainy in upscaling, that means there was probably some grainyness on the picture to start with, you just may not have noticed it.

I also have the 350.

What size tv are you using??

Also, upscaling to "1080p" is not the same as a 1080p source like a bluray... the player is trying to make the picture better with what it has to work with, which is a 720x480 resolution image; stretching it to a 1920x1080 image, it won't be perfect.

again though, it'll depend on the size of your tv also... how much are you stretching this dvd image??

I'm using a 46 inch LCD hdtv connected with hdmi cables. It's just weird, some DVD's (like LoTR EE's) look fantastic when I play them using my blu-ray player, then when I play a more recent DVD from a year ago, it's dotty all over and I'm not stretching the image at all
