For me, Inferno!

I just joined the ranks of serious home 3D viewing this past summer. I hadn't upgraded my AV equipment for a number of years, and I had decided to get a projector and a region-free Blu Ray player. I hadn't really planned on it, but since the price wasn't much higher, I opted to get a projector that did 3D as well, got the screen and a pair of active-shutter glasses, and the rest is history.

I was fairly neutral about modern movies in 3D in the theater; I'm more of a fan of classic movies anyways, and I was excited to see the Golden Age 3D titles the way they were meant to be seen.

I had never even heard of Inferno, but upon reading the reviews I picked it up, and it was the first Golden Age title I watched on my new setup. I was blown away by the viewing. The 50's are my favorite decade for film anyways, and watching this was sort of like a back-to-the-future experience, in that it really felt like a combination of a classic film and vintage hi-tech. Especially with this one, the 3D looked great AND was really relevant and enhanced the story.

Maybe people familiar with vintage 3D weren't too surprised by the quality of this, but for a newbie like me, it was a revelation.

For me, I really enjoyed John Carter, Jupiter Ascending and in the Heart of the sea for 3D

Though there are lots I have yet to watch.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 became my fav 3D release that I demo to friends when they come over. I had high expectations that it exceeded. Also was pleasantly surprised by Ghost In The Shell.

Oh, I'm working on it--I think I've got almost 2/3rds of the titles that have been released.

Terminator 2. I never expected to own this in 3d. Now if they would just convert Vertigo.

Oh, if you're going strictly for the element of surprise, then for me it was:
• Doctor Strange
• Ghost in the Shell
• Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

In 3D in the year 2017 in alphabetic order in the timing of their 3D Blu release dates. King Arthur was cool too and so was The Great Wall, both in 3D.
Surprising? Yes, but not as much as the three above.

And, Transformers: The Last Knight, no matter what, level of surprise or not, is/was the best of the best 3D Blu-ray impacting/immersing experience so far in the year 2017.

The best 3D surprise, only one title? Valerian.
Number two? Ghost.

That's from my set of 3D eyes with the "surprise" element. Your eyes and state-of-surprise might have a different mileage, as they do here with King Arthur.

Officially 2017 3D Blu-ray title release.
As for real 3D cameras used or not (native 3D) versus converted (faked 3D), it don't really matter when it comes to "surprise".

It's funny, I feel like that if we eliminate all our choices only yours would remain.

I was surprised mostly with Transformers: The Last Knight, I was literally watching the opening scene with opened mouth.

Joint runners up for me:

King Arthur
Guardians
Doctor strange

Ghost in the Shell didn't do it for me, although I really like the movie and it does have some good pop-outs.

I would also put the wall in there as a big surprise in the fact that I went into the movie blind and had no idea it was a sci-fi pic, loved the movie and the 3D was well done IMO

Thor 3, after the first two Thor films I assumed it would be mild with some occasional medium at best

I chose Doctor Strange 3D as a 2017 release date (post #4) because Blu-ray.com states it was released in Feb. 2017, and the back of the sleeve has a 2017 release date. If these dates are wrong then I stand corrected.
