For me, Inferno!
I just joined the ranks of serious home 3D viewing this past summer. I hadn't upgraded my AV equipment for a number of years, and I had decided to get a projector and a region-free Blu Ray player. I hadn't really planned on it, but since the price wasn't much higher, I opted to get a projector that did 3D as well, got the screen and a pair of active-shutter glasses, and the rest is history. I was fairly neutral about modern movies in 3D in the theater; I'm more of a fan of classic movies anyways, and I was excited to see the Golden Age 3D titles the way they were meant to be seen. I had never even heard of Inferno, but upon reading the reviews I picked it up, and it was the first Golden Age title I watched on my new setup. I was blown away by the viewing. The 50's are my favorite decade for film anyways, and watching this was sort of like a back-to-the-future experience, in that it really felt like a combination of a classic film and vintage hi-tech. Especially with this one, the 3D looked great AND was really relevant and enhanced the story. Maybe people familiar with vintage 3D weren't too surprised by the quality of this, but for a newbie like me, it was a revelation. |
