Great, thank you! I wonder if you have the answer for this. DTS X headphones.

Do you know how to get it? I have a 3060 when playing DTS X movies through speakers it does decode and displays so but when connecting the headphones it changes to DTS HD and the headphones just sound like a regular stereo headphones without the imitation effect.

Do you know anything about it, as most people haven't even heard of it? Otherwise I will have to end up calling Yamaha as so far nobody I've asked knows that DTS X headphones decoding exist.

It is not one of the fake DSP modes of the receiver is actually based on the multichannel DTS X soundtrack.

^ That sounds physically impossible. Two drivers producing multi-channel surround?

As for the DV update, missed mine by one year. I have the xx50 series.
It's okay though, I've only got 4K in my bedroom...for now.
Dolby Vision will be much more important when the main system gets 4K.

Glad for you guys though.

That's the whole point! It is not done physically it is done artificially and while it is not as good as having the 7.1.4 speakers the effects is surprisingly convincing.

There are lots of videos on youtube, most of them are very bad examples but this one is fairly good and shows how changing the sounds coming from the multi-channel DTS-X signal it can create the illusion of surround with stereo headphones. It will never be perfect but I am interested in it.
of course you need to listen with headphones.

I can't open youtube where I'm currently at.
Any chance you have the DTS demo discs? I know the 2017 one has DTS X Headphone demos on it. I haven't checked them out yet, but will when I'm home next week.
If DTS X Headphone works well, that'd be way cool for late evening movies.

The 3060 came only with one disc which is the owners manual, I haven't played it, there could be a demo there but I doubt it. Because there is so little information available I don't know whether the decoder in the receiver must support it and may be mine doesn't.

I have also noticed that "Jason Bourne" UHD (which I don't have to try) actually states at the back "DTS X Headphone" so that adds to the layer of uncertainty. Do the movies need a special surround addition or any DTS X movie will have it even if it doesn't say so.

If you get the chance I would please like to know what you find about your DTS disc and your receiver, I pressume you have the 3070.

Also do listen to that youtube video I've linked, for me at least on that demo, DTS X headphone sounds sufficiently convincing to keep trying to find out more about.

Watching movies late, even at low volume with the speakers is just too explosive. So an acceptable faux surround with headphones would be very welcomed.

Yes, it sure would!

I don't have the 3070, it's the 3050.

I bought the DTS X demo discs on ebay. The 2017 definitely has the DTS X Headphone demos on it. I don't recall if the 2016 disc does.

Since the demo disc and the Bourne movie have DTS X Headphone, I'm thinking it's an encoding on the discs that provides DTS X Headphone. I'm not 100% though. If the disc doesn't have that, what would DTS X Neural do through headphones?

I'm not at home to check it out, but am definitely intrigued. If you get a chance, let us know how it goes. I'll do the same.

I've had a good look at DTS headphones X from the movie watching perspective, as it can also be used for games, music and
there seem to be an aim to marketed for use with an app on some mobile phones.

From what I gathered to watch a movie you need:

1)A movie that must be encoded with DTS headphone X

2)A receiver capable of decoding DTS X, this part I am not sure as
I did not test it but may be an old receiver that just does DTS might suffice.

3)Find a pair of headphones that produce good results.

I discovered I had 4 movies that have the encoding, so I've tried them.

In point (3) I've mentioned the headphones. I have tried two Sony's with completely different results. (A)MDR-CD780 about $170 when new, open type.
(B)MDR-1RNC still available in some places, around $350 new, sealed, noise cancelling type.

The first one (A) when using the "DTS headphone x" track -compared to the regular DTSX or DTS HD-
produced a 3D sensation and made me feel like if I was listening with the speakers, everything opened up.

However, unlike with the speakers, there was never the clear separation of sounds you get with speakers. It also was not as clear where the sound was coming from like it was in the demo I linked to previously.

With the first movie of "the Mummy trilogy" (UK) There is a spot where a bi-plane comes down of a mountain,
approaches and goes overhead. Soundwise there was no doubt now the plane approached from the front and then went to the back of my head. In the second movie towards the end, the pyramid kind of explodes sending some black
dust upwards and then comes down and starts sucking everything around from the bottom of the pyramid.
Again in this scene you can feel when all the trees are being sucked in you can feel/hear things are coming from
hihger up and going down wards. There were other moments I could mention where sound pinpointing is easier but overall,
those scenes are few, you still benefit from the openess the soundtrack produces when coming just from two speakers.

The experience with headphones (B) was quite dissapointing instead, the openess was gone. In the scenes previously
mentioned you can still feel some imrpovement in the direccionality of the sound but it was hardly worth the effort
of bothering.

So my conclusions are that DTS headphone X provides for me what I was after, a faux surround which is good enough to add to
the movie experience late at night. Was it perfect? No, the main problem seem to be that this is going to be very dependent
on the headphones you use and how the sound in the movie was mastered, which is bound to produce some good results and some
bad ones. More movies and more testing is needed but there is great potential as we do have two ears, not 7 or more so
technology might be able to fool you to some extent with just two speakers.

A couple of additional points:
You can choose the "DTS headphone X" soundtrack at the movie setting screen before starting but while you are watching
it is the "DTS 2ch" track.

Having a movie with DTS X does not translate into having the "DTS headphone X" encoding. The following movies I know have the "DTS headphone X" soundtrack but you better double check:

Fate of the furious (AU)

The Mummy Trilogy (UK)

Ex Machina

Jason Bourne

London has fallen, which shows not only 4k disc have it.

Anyone actually downloaded and watched some DV material through the reciever? I did the download for my cx-a5100 but my TV is not DV capable yet. Apparently my go live date is Jan 2018. Just wondering if its amazing, great, OK, or shouldn't have been so hyped about this upgrade. Any issues passing the DV through?

I’ve had no issues, the 203 goes just to the 3070 now versus to the C6P for video and to the 3070 for audio. All the DV UHDs I have all showed up as DV just as they did when connected directly to the C6P. I don’t stream, much prefer hard copies so I cannot comment on that. One has to see for themselves in my opinion if DV is worth it or not. I’ve read some that see no difference between it and regular HDR, I cannot agree with those who see it that way. For myself the movies just have another look to them when played in DV.
