Default Memorex MVBD2510C Firmware

Hello everyone, has anyone tried to update the new Memorex firmware yet? I tried today and can't get it to work it keeps telling me "no firmware disc detected." I have tried downloading it and burning it several times to the blank CDR and that didn't resolve the issue. I got this for my parents for the holidays and wanna make it work.. Please Advise!! Thanks!

Most firmware has been provided as an .iso file which needs to be burned to the disc as an image vs. a data disc. However, it seems Memorex simply zipped the contents of the disc and provided that as a download. That could be a potential problem depending on how the player recognizes the disc.

I see that they provided two firmware releases; one on 12/15 and another on 12/24. Which one did you try? What does the contents of the burned CD-R show?

It appears the firmware file structure is vary similar to the firmware contents for the Olevia Blu-ray player. A number of those users are also experiencing issues with getting that player to recognize the firmware disc.

Blu-ray Disc Player MVBD2510

EDIT: Other notes of caution per Memorex instructions:

Unzip the firmware and burn the unzip files (make sure only the files are being burned and not a parent folder) on a blank CD-R disc.
Warning: do not burn the unzip files on a blank CD+R /CD-RW/ CD+RW disc.

Q: What does the firmware dated December 24th do?

A: This firmware improved disc compatibility. Most of the latest releases from Fox can be played. We tested it with latest Fox released movie "Horton Hears a Who", which wasn't played in previous firmware but played in this version.
We also tested the below BD discs with this firmware, all can be played properly.
  • "The Dark Knight"(Warner Bros.)
  • "Transformers"(Paramount)
  • "Spiderman 3"(Columbia)
  • "21"(Columbia)
  • "Resident Evil: Extinction"(Sony)
  • "The Legend of Zorro"(Columbia)

We expect another firmware update to be available the week of January 5th.

Reading up on the net, a lot of other users are having problems getting the firmware to work on these players and some have had no problems.

I noticed the firmware upgrade instructions leave little to be desired. Try these steps to see if it will work.

1. Turn on the player.

2. With the player in NO DISC mode, press the Setup button and go to GeneralUpdate FirmwareCD ROM. Then press the ENTER button, the unit's disc tray will open automatically.

3. Put the disc in the tray (leave the disc tray open), select Yes and press the Enter button to start the upgrade.

4. In about 8 minutes, the CD Tray will open automatically. Please take out the disc to finish the upgrade. If the disc tray does not open automatically, please press the Open button on the front panel of the unit.

5. NOTE: after finishing above steps, please power off and then on the unit, the unit should be in working order.

Thanks for the reply, I am using a MAC and I am just unzipping to a folder and then copying the files from the folder right to a CD.

When I look at the Contents of the CD there are several files on the disc, I have tried both firmware updates and haven't had any luck. The files on the disk are all .bin or .bin.sig

What Mac program are you using to burn the disc?

EDIT: From what I have read, it appears Mac users have had success via burning the files to the disc as a Data CD in the ISO9660 file format (No UDF, Joliet, ISO9660+Joliet, etc).

I created an .iso file in the ISO9660 format on my Windows machine and you can download it here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IVYIMRA7

Then try burning this .iso to disc by the Mac OS X disc utility. Instructions can be found here:

Try contacting Memorex to see if they'll send you a firmware disc.

Just for clarification, I noticed you mentioned the MVBD2510C firmware in the thread title, but never mentioned the player you had. I assumed you had the MVBD2510 vs. the MVBD2511, but maybe I shouldn't make assumptions and we can rule this out as a potential issue.

Default still not working

I've burned the cd... 16 separate files... got through the setup/firmware update menu... saw the list of files on the player... now what? Nothing appears to have updated... was the player not able to open the files?

Try pressing the RETURN button.

EDIT: Once you see the list of files displayed on the screen you may need to go through the menu again to update the firmware. Hit the SETUP button twice to display the menu. Select General -> Update Firmware -> CDROM. The drive should eject and select Yes. The drive should close and start updating the firmware.

I finally got my player to update, I had to burn the disc on a PC. For some reason it didn't like a burnt disc on a MAC... Oh well.. Thanks everyone for your help!!!

Default Here's what I did.

I was having the exact same problem, but found that if you get a copy of Roxio Toast for your Mac and choose ISO 9660 in the "Advanced" tab for data CDs you will burn one that the player will (finally) recognize.

Just FYI to everyone else, the firmware is not in .iso format. It is all in a zip file you need to unzip and select the files to burn to a CD-R.

Does anyone know when the latest firmware update will coming out? I believe it was supposed to be in March. I put in Quantum of Solace and it glitched out - even putting up a red screen saying that the firmware needed to be updated.

Default Newest firmware waste of time

New July firmware helps on older blu-ray, but won't play newer ones.
