Oh I watched it. All I can say is the FORMULA was wrong...sorry, it was and because of this the movie is a dud IMO.

I thought the movie was a 3 out of 5 stars. I did not hate it and I did not love it. It was just OK. It had a weird ending that left me dissatisfied. I will Netflix the movie when it is released on BD just to determine if my opinion changes from watching it in the theater.

I would not see it again simply because there is nothing that draws me back. This is my perfect example of a rental.
you said it perfectly right there and jaden smith was really bad in it.

the ironic thing with this movie (and its original) is that the original was criticized hevily for its pacificst message, but the reason hollywood went all green/environmental on this one, is because the men who make up hollywood would not want klaatu's original message shown in theatres today, because that message comes way to close to the issues in today's earth than it did ever before.

I have seen the original many times over the years. I have it on VHS. The movie was made a few years before I was born - in an era when mankind was dropping atomic bombs all over the place. The original plot was that the alien was here to warn us that if we start taking our craziness off planet, the whole planet would be destroyed. The idea was that the robots were like doomsday machines - at any sign of violence, they would come in and quash the event. With that fear, and the certainty that others felt it too, war was discouraged and thus stopped.

This new movie starts with the same premise but then goes into the politically correct garbage about how mankind is ruining the earth and it is mankind that will be destroyed to save the earth.

For all it was worth, the earth didn't even stand still. It was a decent movie for what it was, but it is only the day the movie industry stood still.

To me it is just a bunch of crap like the day after tomorrow.

Just for comparison, I have been watching the Omega Man for many years and liked Legend. Both endings. The story was updated but stayed faithful to the original. When you make a new story, make a new title.

One more thing. I am getting old and set in my ways. I had my opinion of the movie after the first half hour. I kept that opinion even after reading these comments.

I was asked for my opinion by three people waiting in the lobby when I came out. I spouted off and told them that I didn't like the changes but it was a good movie anyway. They looked high school or college age and I realized how old I am getting because they had no idea that this was not the original movie. Of course, this is an original movie with a stolen but familiar name.

[QUOTE=mpstjohn;1447183]The only truly terrible part about it was Jaden Smith. Man, that kid was annoying.

Everything else was fine. It definitely wasn't close in quality to the original, but (aside from Jaden Smith) was an alright movie.

]

what? i thought that kid was amazing...to be critical of a CHILD like this really shows somehting about you...i didn't know it was will smith's kid going into the movie, but i thought the kid did a great job and i came onto this site to see who he was...turns out it's will smith's kid, and now i know why he did a great job in the movie. sounds like someone is anti-will smith to me....a shame. that is the only reason someone could so roundly harsh on a child, when children, even the best, are not great actors

It's a terrible movie. The original had a message and a damn good one. The only message this movie showed me was "We want your $$$$".

There was no heart or compassion or reflection upon ourselves as mankind. Sorry, but over the top special effects and terrible acting on all accounts won't pull me in for a second viewing let alone a purchase. That right is reserved to Michael Bay

Based on the trailers, I have no desire to see this. Not only is it a desecration of a classic that didn't need remaking and not only is there the Keanu factor, the pictures just looked terrible to me: Dark and almost colorless.

At least in the original the aliens did not leave earth in total disorder as they did in this one, lets see... the entire planet left completely without power ( the price we must be willing to pay to survive),unfortunatly within 6 months if not sooner the world would tear itself apart, and do you think for one minute we would all come together and hold hands seeking to be one with mother earth!!!! PLEEEaaasse!!!! Famine, disease, war, and the total breakdown of civilization would ensue...Thankfully the tree huggers would be the first to be strung up and die......I basically saw no redeming quality in the aliens whatsoever, no compassion unless you happened to be a lizard, frog, whale, dolphine, ect, ect.. (Mankind of course is not included) The sequel to this lame remake should be about us developing our technology and going out and reducing their Alien dictatorship federation to Dust...That one I would gladly add to my Blu-ray collection...

Stick with the original. The remake is worthless. I wouldn't be suprised if it gets a Razzie nomination, that's how bad I thought it was, acting and all. My wife and I had intended to go see "Valkyrie" last Friday but the start time wouldn't accomodate our schedule so we opted for Keanu's flick which started earlier. In hindsight we should've readjusted our schedule and gone to see "Valkyrie" instead of blowing off two hours watching crap.

I'd steer clear of DTESS while in the theaters and would recommend not even bothering with a blind buy when it hits blu-ray this spring/summer.
