For me, Downsizing was a bit of a bust. The visuals are impressive but the film just seems to meander along. I was a little bored with the whole thing as it started to run off the rails mid-way through, finally coming completely off the tracks in the last act. 2017 has not been kind to Matt Damon. Three strikes: The Great Wall, Suburbicon, and now Downsizing. I was a little disappointed given the last three Alexander Payne endeavors.

This is one of the few times Damon has spoken up about something and has been right. This is the ONE time he should be applauded for having the guts to speak truth in the middle of all this hysterical nonsense. If overly sensitive fools like Alyssa Milano and Minnie Driver can't comprehend what he was saying and if they can't get over their narrow-minded hysterical views then that's their problem, not his.
Not everything is predatory behavior and there are way different levels of abuse. And, true abuse doesn't start until way past where morons like Milano and Driver set their new era bar. At least that's still the case here in the real world. |

There really isn't anything wrong with Damon's comments. He just says that we can't put someone who touched a butt in the same category as a rapist and that some of these people deserve a second chance.
Then again, I guess Milano and Driver's SJW response is driven partly by jealousy, as Damon continues to get great roles while these forgotten actresses struggle to get any meaningful jobs in Hollywood. I'm sure that's the case with Rose McGowan too. If she still was a high paid popular actress you wouldn't have heard from her. |

I agree with Damon. There is a huge difference between a pat on the butt then rape. To destroy someone's life over a pat on the butt in insane. Its definitely wrong to do, but its nowhere as bad as rape.

2/5.
This film was baffling to me. An incredibly well thought out premise that showed true promise only to bungle it by silently packaging it in a loose white savior film. The 2 stars are for Hong Chau. Payne and Taylor have managed to write a very borderline racist stereotype (similar to comedienne Anjelah Johnson’s ‘Nail Salon’ character) in Ngoc Lan but Chaus delivery finds the heart and soul in the character. She really carried the film when it needed it the most, after the sheen of the initial premise wore off and the film started to drag. There are a lot of socioeconomical topics this film wants to tackle but fails miserably. Sad to see it go this way as it was one of my most anticipated but it happens. |

Yeah..... I love Payne, but he had no idea where to go with the interesting concept here. The movie isn't terrible, but it never really goes anywhere interesting after a very good first half hour or so.
I will say that Damon was great here, and did a good job carrying the movie once it started going downhill. Hong Chau was very good as well, even if pretty much everything about her character was troubling. I loved Christoph Waltz as well. I can't say I'd recommend this, but I will say that it's not quite as bad as some are making it out to be. |

That's the rating I gave it. Honestly, I thought this movie was horrible, one of the worst I've watched in the theaters in a while. Oh well, they can't all be gems...
btw, to the person who said you need to be into the environment to like this. I disagree. I graduated with a Sustainable Resource Management degree, and did environmental remediation for 5 1/2 years, before I switched to programming, and I still did not like it. |

I saw this last week. It was very eh and underwhelming. Interesting concept that turned into a hippie dippie save the world type thing.
2.5/5 Can't decide what was worse this or Suburbicon Which also stars Matt Damon. ![]() Suburbicon was another movie that was very eh also. |
