Opinion in The Patriot release....horrible quality - Page 2 - Blu-ray Forum

calibrate your tv with DVE or something similar. if you have calibrated it already, calibrate it again, and again until this movie looks amazing because it looks pretty amazing on mine. if that doesn't work get some professional calibration, there is nothing horrible about the quality of this movie.

+1 I had forgotton how great this movie was untill I saw the Blu version again. It Blu me away.

LOL @ all the calibration requests.

If this was about calibration the guy would have a global issue with every disc not just one.

Not necessarily true.

Cars can look pretty dang good on an uncalibrated set, where a movie like The Patriot might not.

That said, The Patriot is an outstanding looking movie.

The OP's description (colors way too saturated, unnecessarily grainy) doesn't sound like a defective disc.

Since you have a new Sony might you be watching your programming with the tv set to vivid? If so, just google search for some manual settings for your Sony. Get out of the vivid setting if you're using it.

well exactly, I based my calibration comments off of the OP's comments about colors and grain. calibration is a serious issue amongst many HDTV owners who have no clue what it is. they normally just naturally eye things out while some don't even bother changing the default settings. some people have sharp turned way up thinking it makes the image sharper, etc. this is clearly a hardware issue either player or tv and not the movie disc.

I remember The Patriot looking very good, although a little digital looking compared to better transfers which look more natural and film-like.

+1. My cousin just bought a new XBR and the default was "vivid"

Vivid makes live action look horrible....the colors dont "pop"...the explode is a bad way.

Set it to "cinema" and colors temp to "warm 2"

I was replying to richieb1971's comments that it was a disc issue.

He said he only had the tv for a month. Maybe he never did the initial calibration.
