Supposedly, according to Steve Manfred, who is an "insider" with information on these things, the first four seasons are still coming to blu ray on their own eventually. Originally it was 2014, then it was 2015, and now I think he last said "sometime." So who knows.
I would definitely buy them if they ever came out, assuming they weren't $50 a piece. |

It's not a major issue at this point since the HD seasons were released first, but the number of people who would be happy to buy upscaled seasons could be less than the number of people who would be disappointed by them. |

Just my 2¢ here: Gotta say I concur with StingingVelvet. I have the Complete Series 1-7 set, and the best thing about having S 1-4 on Blu is the fact that the BD's hold more content/eps per disc - thus less shelf space wasted. I loved the fact that the set was keepcases within the big box. The box & sonic are up in my attic...only the keepcases are on my shelf. Wish the Matt Smith set (which I also have) was keepcases in the box instead of the oversized book. The Bluray upscale vs. DVD is marginal to my eyes. You can really see the improvement in the Tennant eps starting with Planet Of The Dead (the first ep shot in HD).
I guess it's all in what You value. The Smith eps are the ones I'm most interested in. 10 was not my favourite Doctor. I was, I admit, quite happy to have the Eccleston eps on Blu tho. ...But again, for me, the lure was the small BD keepcase vs. the bigger box the DVD version of S1 came in. |

Can't help you because I own the original season sets, but I do know some US Doctor Who blu ray stuff IS region locked. I have seen complaints about it on Gallifrey Base, the biggest Doctor Who forum out there. Whether this set is one of those I cannot say, but I bet at least some of it is.
They should be the same discs through Series 7 that were in the "Complete Series 1-7 Giftset" if that helps you check. Might be a good idea to register on Gallifrey Base and read through the Series 1-7 Giftset thread. |

Depends on who you ask. You have both versions, you tell us! Is the 1080p upgrade worth the slowdown? Are more episodes on each disc impacting the bitrate? You can actually answer these questions.

Looking at mine now. It doesn't say "Limited Edition" anywhere on it.
...But obviously it is. ![]() |

Is it worth it to hunt for the this set or buy the individual seasons and specials? Are the extras worth it? I like the DW Prom extra but not sure if I would re-watch it. I am not sure if my setup would play the UK ones either. I have a PS3. Thanks!

I have no idea what it's going for now, but it's certainly a nice compact packaging of Matt's entire appearance as The Doctor (save for his cameo in 0801 Deep Breath). It's also the only place You can get his two Sarah Jane Adventures episodes on Region A.

Started watching Doctor Who with the first Matt Smith season a few years ago and didn't continue past that for some reason. In the last few weeks I have revisited the show with this set and fallen in love with it! Just the right mix of lighthearted fun and interesting sci-fi concepts to make it a perfect show to watch when unwinding after work. Plus, Amy and Clara are quite easy on the eyes.
Being a newcomer to the series, I was really thankful for the numerous bonus features included in this set. In particular, "The Ultimate Guide" was a very informative overview of the long history of the series. Despite not knowing a lot about the previous Doctors, I was laughing out loud at the clever "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot". Speaking of old Who, does anyone happen to know how accurate the "An Adventure in Space and Time" TV movie is to the actual beginnings of the show? It was interesting, but seemed a little simplistic. Just started the Peter Capaldi set and I am NOT liking this Doctor so far. Very different from Matt Smith. But I will give the new series time to grow on me, since different Doctors seems to be part of the fun of the show. Last edited by PrestonXI; 05-01-2018 at 01:11 AM. |

Peter Capaldi was a great Doctor. Like you, it took me a while to warm up to him because he was quite different from Matt Smith's incarnation. So I remember watching the first and maybe second episode when they first aired going 'who is this old guy?' (I am older than Peter Capaldi so it wasn't ageism but the change was a shock).
But I was watching those early episodes just the other day and he is so hilarious and already perfect in those but it just took me time to see it. Which is really the magic of the show. Each of the four modern Doctors have seemed so right for the role. I was always resistant at first but always came around when a new one came on board. |

Season 8 of the new Who (Capaldi's first) was a bit of a letdown. Not because of Capaldi. But because the episodes centered around Clara Oswald and her new bf Danny Pink (who were both awful IMHO). It was as though Steven Moffat didn't have enough faith in Capaldi's ability to live up to Matt Smith. He needn't have worried. Capaldi proved to be a fantastic doctor. By season 9 Danny Pink is gone, and by season 10 Clara's gone too. And the show continually improves as Capaldi keeps getting pushed to the fore more and more.
Smith was and will always be my personal favourite Doctor, but Capaldi will impress, I assure You. |

Sorry to bump an old thread. But I kind of fell out of paying attention to Doctor Who for a while and missed this set while it was in print. I am getting back into it and rewatching all the modern series. Matt Smith is also my favorite of the modern Doctors.
Does anyone know of a place I can buy this set for a reasonable price or does anyone have one for sale? If not I'll just keep on the lookout on Ebay for a while. |
