BD and DVD mixed, so I can enjoy watching my collection slowly turn Blu as I upgrade.

As for organization, I actually organize by GENRE, then group similarly themed programs together.

So for example, I have my Sci-fi section with epic "outer spacey" sci-fi TV shows first (stuff like Babylon 5, Firefly, etc.), then shifting to the various sub-genres of sci-fi. Star Wars and Star Trek share a shelf, and I have a British Sci-fi shelf as well (lots of Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Tomorrow People, etc.)

For Horror, I have my Italian Horror section (Argento, Fulci, etc.), my Zombie movies section, Classic (the old Universal monster movies, etc.), and so on.

For cartoons (of which I have a lot), I've got an 80's and 90's cartoon section (Thundercats, He-Man, Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, etc.), and an "adult" cartoons section (Family Guy, Futurama, Ralph Bakshi stuff, Adult Swim stuff, etc.)

It's actually all quite logical and easy to find a particular title within each section. I just find alphabetizing so....boring. I would actually find it MORE difficult to find a title I'm in the mood for that way. This way when I'm in the mood for sci-fi, I just look at the Sci-fi shelves. Horror, the horror shelves. Classics, the Classics shelf, etc.

I did a series of videos about how I have it all organized on my YouTube page a while back. Check it out if you'd like a more visual idea of what I mean.

Alphanumeric and separate starting with numeric titles first like 2001:AS0 and 3:10 to Yuma. I have a 6 ft high cherry finish bookcase. My BDs are on the top shelf. My DVD collection is on the next two shelves below those.

I keep my DVDs and blu-rays separate. My DVDs are alphabetical, but not my blu-rays. I have those grouped by watched/unwatched and then by genre. That'll probably change as my collection grows. They'll eventually get alphabetized. I'll always keep them separate from my DVDs though.

DVDs are sorted alphabetically, then by genre.

Blu-Rays for now are just alphabetically. Once I amass a bigger collection, I 'll be using the same categorization method as DVD.

mine are arranged chronologically, starting with lumiere films up to... the most recent dvd of any kind i have are bds wall*e and the police reunion concert. formats are mixed, as are all the various boxes, etc (like the distinctive indiana jones spines, dotted throughout the 80s).

it's messy, but i've always had it that way and it will remain like that forever. all my films are behind cabinets, anyway. i only see them when i'm looking for something.

all of my cds are arranged like that, too (1000+). from medieval music to... well, the police reunion double album, it's all dark ages-last month.

I organize my DVDs and BDs separately. Not alphabetically but by genre and then even further by my own sub categories, like actor, director, style etc...

Going by genre seems haphazard to me. For example: The Thing. Some might put it in horror, but to me it's sci-fi. Same for Event Horizon, but in reverse order: Some think it's sci-fi, yet I think of it as a horror. Can of worms, people...can of worms.

I hardly have any DVDs any more. But as far as my Blu-rays go, I used to have the movie titles in alphabetical order in regards to the studio. (For Warner Bros., I'd start with 300 and Batman Begins, etc. And for Sony, I'd start with Casino Royale and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc.). But now, I just have every single one of my Blu-rays in alphabetical order, regardless of the studio.

When my Blu ray collection becomes worthy of size, I will group them into genre and then alphabetize them

Is it THEIR movie collection or YOUR movie collection?
