Default DVD to Blu-ray

Sorry about my newbie ignorance. The question is: I have a collection of DVD's wich I intend to store in blu-ray discs, considering their improved durability. Can I write the DVD files (VOBS, SUBS, etc) directly to the BD or must they be converted to some kind of "Blu-ray format"?

Sure!
They can be stored as data or even just as the VIDEO_TS folders(Drag N Drop), but the only thing that will be able to read the disc is a BD drive.

Once read and copied, or even on the fly, they will play fine.

Just understand that currently BD blanks are pretty expensive. I think you may want to consider waiting till costs come down more.
