I like Batman Begins more and more each time I watch it. When it first came out, I thought it was pretty good, but not great. Now a think it is only a half step behind The Dark Knight. It almost works better as a prequel to TDK, rather than the start of a franchise.

I like TDK more but loved them both. I'm a Christopher Nolan fan though so I like most of his movies.

Its kind of unimaginable to me for someone to like one but not the other. They compliment themselves very well. Begins is a reboot... Of course its going to focus more on batman/bruce wayne, because they need to set his origins in place. The Dark Knight was strictly about the MISSION, while wrapping up loose ends with Rachael while the Joker was creating nonstop chaos.
It will be a trilogy and at the end of it, will be one of the greatest trilogies in cinema. |

I love them both but honestly I liked the storyline in Batman Begins more. The Dark Knight is really a movie about the Joker with Batman as more of a supporting character than anything else. I also like Katie Holmes more than the actress in the Dark Knight.

I loved them both, but they just seem to employ different styles. Batman Begins is more of a "travelling warrior" story where Bruce leaves the comfort of his mansion and goes to Asia and trains under Ducard (Liam Neeson). He comes back and fights the bad guys. Gotham in this movie is obviously darker and much more greasy. The ones we remember in the classic films. However, The Dark Knight, we see a cleaned up Gotham but the movie's villiain is different than what we're used to. The Joker is an amazing villain thanks to his character and the actor that portrayed him. He was much more entertaining to watch than any of the villains in Begins. He's ruthless, frightening, and so much fun. Plus, you have the more epic-esque style of The Dark Knight. The scene in which the hospital blew to pieces with the Joker walking off like a penguin or something was amazing and looked very real. So.. I don't know. I was more entertained by TDK.

I wasn't a huge fan of Begins. Can't explain exactly why, it just seemed less than the sum of its parts to me.
Part of it, I'm sure, was that I had exorbitantly high expectations going into it - I loved Nolan's previous work, loved the great casting choices (Michael Caine as Alfred!!!, of course Bale as Bruce) and Bats is my favorite comics character - so nothing might have measured up. On the other hand, being disappointed by Begins meant I had low expectations for The Dark Knight (didn't think the trailers for it were all that enticing, either) and was very pleasantly surprised. Happy to see the Joker realized authentically (outside of the comics), for once in my life. Of course I own both films, so it's not like I hated Begins or anything... |

Katie Holmes not being Rachel Dawes in TDK also bothered me, but not as much to ruin the film for me. I still felt it better than its predecessor.
Maybe Katie is protesting that it's Tom Cruise's turn to be Batman. He seems to be the only actor out there that hasn't become a superhero. |
