Default Putting together my own system.

Well, I think instead of buying a 5.1 system I might as well just make my own. I am going to get these tomorrow, now which center should I get, and rears, as well as Sub. Budget is quite low, looking to get the rest for dirt cheap. Should I stay Polk then, and does mixing and matching hurt the quality of the sound? Thanks.

Looking around I found some packages. Which would be better, RM6750 (complete 5.1, new), for $270CDN shipped. Or RM10 (5.0 no sub, used), for $265 shipped? From looking myself I think the 6750's are only 100 Watt, and the RM10 are 130 Watt. Oh yeah, and the RM10 come with 4 stands.

looking at a chart and it seems they can handle the same watts.

Even the M20's are probably going to overpower the RM6750. You'd be better with more M speakers. I think Circuit City is closing them out.

I think that M10s work well as surrounds, I just got them on Boxing Day and they sound great. Those towers would be good if you want to keep a uniform company too.

However with boxing day deals done your going to have to hunt around, I got the pair for $68.

From seeing you link to Visions Im assuming your in Canada, BestBuy is still having their boxing week sale on. I got Klipsch F1 Towers and a Precision Acoustics 10" Sub for a good price, the sub actually sounds pretty good, however Im sure there is better subs (Im in an apt tho so it doesnt matter so much).

A good center would depend on what towers you pick, I got the Klipsch RC10 from futureshop for $200, LondonDrugs had it cheaper, but I think that sale is over now.

Anyways Im sure youll find something adequate to your needs. Ill list the links again here for you.

Your F1's and your RC10, I'm not sure those are proper timbre match.
you should check into a C1 or C2

I see that you are in Canada. I think I seen an Online ad for the Sub-12 for $250, if you could I would take back that sub you bought and get the Sub-12.
The Sub-12 it's much more bang for your buck, but it might be a little too much power for your apt.

I live in an apt and I have two of them, but noone lives under me. I live in the corner and nothing is to the right of me, too many walls to the left of me.

Yeah I have my landlord below me So I have to keep it somewhat low, the RC10 sounds fine and blends with the F1's, I didnt really like the look of the C1/2 that was on display. However it is my first real step up to a home theatre from a HTIB system, so its a good start for me

The Sub is better than I expected, the budget I was on was too low for a more expensive sub, for $100 I think I got a decent enough sub until I move into a house or something. Ill try to get some pics up soon, still getting used to having such large speakers :P

I picked up the M20's from Visions earlier today and just hooked them up for the first time, just hooked up my receiver for the first time as well!

Holy crap they sound awesome!! I seriously doubt I need a sub right now they are excellent. I say this because my budget is basically done and all I spent was $150 on two fronts. But that is because I blew $400 on the receiver, which was my budget from the get go!

Right now I think I will just stick with two fronts, for a few reasons, A) my room is extremely small and I really have no room for any more, no where to put a sub or center, or surrounds. B) I don't want to spend anymore C) It is loud enough!!

Now I just need to figure out how to set up my PS3, Xbox 360 and cable with the Receiver, because I am just using the awesome USB iPod thing right now and playing music. I plugged a HDMI in to the TV, and then to the "HDMI out" one on the Receiver, then plugged my 360 (Component) into the Receiver. Set my TV to HDMI 1, and turned the 360 on. Nothing appears, so I must have effed up somewhere. Reading the manual sucks too.

Edit: Oh and thanks for the Circuit City link. Looks like an excellent price, however I am in Canada, and they do not ship.

Fronts only are a good way to go- you can add later if you choose. What receiver did you end up with? Chances are that it doesn't do great analog to HDMI upscaling, so hook up your receiver like this:

1. 360- Component video to TV, optical to receiver.
2. PS3- HDMI to receiver, receiver's HDMI out to TV.
3. Cable box- HDMI (if applicable) to receiver. Optical or digital coaxial to receiver.
