Any Word On The First MAD MAX Coming To Blu?

Don't know why the cheesy sequel was put on blu-ray before the classic first Mad Max movie, but does anyone know when it's being released?

Hopefully they'll keep the original Australian dialogue track, like they did on the dvd!

Hmmm I'm not familiar with this. What do you mean "Australian dialogue track"? Australians speak English last I checked.

Mad Max was originally dubbed in the US - due to Mel Gibson's Aussie Accent. More recent US releases returned the original audio track. It was never dubbed in Australia.

Mad Max 2 was never dubbed at all.

So your saying that in The Road Warrior he has the proper Australian accent? So if you watch the original audio track from Mad Max and then watch The Road Warriror his accent is the same?

When Mad Max was shown in the U.S. it's distributors felt that the heavy Aussie accent will be hard to understand much less they're slang. It was dubbed using American voices. We all know what dubbing does to a movie. Makes it feel unemotional in a sense not directly relating to actors and their performance.

They were supposed to be cleaning it up for a Superbit release a few years ago that never eventuated. I'd love to see a proper blu version

I have my doubts this film will ever be released again without the Aussie dialog.On the other hand if this does come to blu,they needn't even bother including the Americanized track as far as I'm concerned!

I thought they did a pretty decent job cleaning it up for the MGM DVD,especially compared to the old non-anamorphic DVD(from Image if I'm not mistaken).

It will be interesting to see what version of Mad Max makes it to Blu-Ray. When I first saw Mad Max, it was on cable TV, The Movie Channel. I later bought it on laserdisc. When I viewed the laserdisc, I noted that a few scenes were cut from the version shown on The Movie Channel. I had discussed this some time ago and someone, who supposedly is in the know, said the movie was never cut. But, as they say, I saw what I saw. I only wish I had recorded it. The cut scene(s) were around the red Chevy incident. Irrespective, I would like to see Mad Max come to Blu-Ray. I already have The Road Warrior and it turned out well.

The Australian R4 DVD release was better PQ and AQ than the R1 MGM release. It even had a full bitrate DTS track. I never saw the original Image version but on reviewing the R4 and the newer R1, they are both lacking.

Lets hope that they go back to an original Australian print like Warners did with The Road Warrior.

BTW this happened in Sydney Australia recently for the films 30TH ANNIVERSARY:

"Peter Millyn and Nelson Tromp are organising a screening of Mad Max 1 in glorious 35mm for the 31st of January in Sydney.

The screening will be at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) which is located next to Fox Studios in the Entertainment quarter in its brand new cinema. The event will start at 1pm screening of Mad Max 1 followed by a question and answer session. At this time the confirmed attendees are Grant Page, Emil Minty and Dale Bensch. There will be the chance for attendees to get pictures and autographs.

It also coincides with Dirk's (Cueball on the forum) visit to Sydney, oh and the 30 year anniversary."



A 30th anniversary would be the perfect excuse to release a freshly remastered version on blu. (Let me dream)

I'd like to see a boxset before I spring for any of these. But Road Warrior was the best of the three. And don't get me started on Master Blaster from Thunderdome.

After all these years I guess I always thought that Road Warrior was the first movie and never realized there was another one first, after seeing the trailer, it kinda looks really shitty, of course if I never saw Road Warrior and saw a trailer now I might say the same thing, so for most Americans Road Warrior is the foray into the Mad Max universe?

It probably had a lower budget than the 2 sequels, but I think that's where it excels. Mad Max is the grittiest of the 3. It has a nice "indie" feel to it, where as the Road Warrior to me was "very 80's" and Beyond Thunderdome .....well.....that was "totally 80's".

Any word yet on this movie's release in BLU? I saw a showing of all 3 Mad Max films at a revival theater in Los Angeles. After that night all I want for BLU is 'Mad Max'.

These are 3 of my favorite films and wishing they would put thunderdome and mad max on blu, already have road warrior and damn that movie rocks. If i'm correct there have been a few movies that gave you that road warrior feel recently, (doomsday, death race). If so i thinks it is just respect to a george miller classic.
