The main difference is that the Elite has more adjustment controls (color temp, gamma... etc).

call 6ave.com and have them price match Amazon, then ask them to apply coupon code CATTV25 or AFLTV25 for another 25% off.

The differences in the regular Pio line and the Elite line have become fewer and fewer over the past 7-8 years.

As an above poster listed, one of the only real-world differences any more is the picture adjustments.

Back in the CRT days the difference was worth it, any more it is much harder to justify the $$$$.

so if you are getting it ISF'd anyways....it almost sounds like it's worth just going with the 6020?

That is exactly what I am doing. I bought the 6020 instead of the pro-151FD because I intend to get it professionally calibrated. Its highly recommended that you break-in, or watch the TV in full screen for 150 hours before you have it calibrated.
You can find great deals on the non-elite from authorized internet dealers, as opposed to the elite which has to be bought from a local dealer within 200-mile radius (as required by pioneer to have the factory warraty), which would cost a lot more given that most of those stores don't offer a significant discount, and most probably would have to pay local tax. Anyway, I don't think its worth paying $1000+ on an elite model.

Why not think XBR?

LCD vs. Plasma?

According to many experts, plasma has better picture than LCD. Here's an example: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...?tag=mncol;lst

10/10 picture

I could be mistaken, but my Audio Store where I purchased my Pioneer Elite also indicated that many of the parts in the Elite Series were hand picked off of the assembly line based upon QA testing. I can not confirm that this is correct however.

When I look at Plasma I feel the P could be brighter.
Also those annoying reflections of ambient light.
But the Kuro/Elite is a different matter, I suppose . . .

The world seems to agree there's none better.
The Critics. The Mavens. The Fanboys. The Owners.

Whose to say?

Pioneer Broadens 2008 Elite KURO Line of Displays with New Signature Series of Monitors
Quote:
Our Elite monitors are hand-selected...

Many parts of the Elite monitors are hand selected and hand assembled, making the monitor even more unique and distinct in its own right.

...what I get from this article is the Elite Signiature Series Monitors are hand selected while the Elite HDTV's are not?

The regular Elites have a little better picture quality with deeper blacks compared to the Pioneer non Elites. The Elite Signature Series has hand selected parts to offer the best possible picture with even deeper blacks. The Elite Signature series is the best of the best in picture quality but are not for the average consumer. The Elite Signature series plasmas are similar in some ways to a front projector hookup since one requires a dedicated home theater room. The Elite Signature series are a high quality monitor only with no tuner or speakers (worldwide signal support NTSC, PAL, SECAM). One has to own a stereo system or surround sound system to hear any audio, also an external tuner like a cable box or satellite receiver is required to watch TV.
The reason the Elite Signature series does not have any TV tuner or speakers is to keep cost down and also having a dedicated circuit board for video only offers better quality.

I cut/pasted that article. Will dissect it later. But what does HAND SELECTED
really imply. Must call Pioneer Monday to sort out this crap.

Hand picked. Hand assembled . . . .by whom . . . . .and where? . . . .
where are Pioneer's really built? . . . . . What hemisphere?

I would not go as far as saying that the elite has "deeper blacks", as they have similar black level which is 5x previous generation. As far as picture is concerned, the elite can produce a more ACCURATE picture/color due to the finer level of adjustment controls.

I had been told about the part selection in the Elite Series Kuro July before any announcement of the new Signature Series Monitors.
