Default T2 DVD and Blu-ray

I just have a question regarding Terminator 2. I have the Extreme DVD and it says on the back that it has a 1080p high definition 24fps transfer. The Blu-ray obviously has a 1080p transfer as well, but I'm just wondering how can a DVD support 1080p? and also if there is a considerable difference in picture quality between the two discs?

The T2 extreme dvd includes a wmv hd file of Theatrical cut yes. I never got to test it as I am not in the US.
If you are looking for a good copy of T2 on Blu, check out the British Optimum release which includes T2 Dir. cut and DTS HD MA audion. Disc is region free and plays perfectly on Reg. A player.

Available from Amazon.co.uk and others as low as $11.5 +pp

to answer the OPs question, it's the same as if a movie was shot in HD and then transferred to DVD. DVD cannot obviously handle HD, so the resolution is downconverted. someone back me up if i'm correct or not...

Not quite. The 1080p transfer is in reference to a WMV file.

agreed. T2 was near reference quality on dvd imo, but on bluray, definitely not, although it was an improvement. i know a lot of people who thought the T2 laserdisc was reference quality also. hopefully a BD double dip with all the special features from both the Ultimate and Extreme Editions carried over will include a better transfer.

T2 was the first HD movie I remember being released. I never had and still don't have a good enough computer to run it but I tested it out. It looked beautiful but ran a little sluggish on my laptop.

The WMV version is decent. Its definitely better than the DVD, but you have to jump through a lot of DRM hoops just to watch the damn thing. Its very inconvenient, you are better off getting the Blu-ray.

The French 2-Disc Special edition uses the StudioCanal transfers which were used for the Ultimate 4-Disc Edition we got a few years back.
And apparently, the quality on that is amazing; and it has the Extended cut as well!
I'll be getting it soon because I reeeeeeally love that movie. I'll let you know when I do.

Can you post a link to this release please ?

All I can find on amazon.fr is a 1disc version and it does not show how long it is.

The website is just wrong and doesn't state the correct information.

http://www.amazon.fr/Terminator-2-Bl...1150091&sr=8-1

If you look closely at the cover it says "2 Blu-ray Discs":

Ahhh cool! Now I understand. I thought the number 2 meant like Region 2 at first...

Awesome, might have to import a few titles from France then

Thanks!

Ah, the good old days!! Remember bringing the director's cut back to Norway from the US on laserdisc, and things have never been the same since I first saw this. An awesome experience.

Still got my T2 Laserdisc in the basement. Not lettin' go

As for the Blu-Ray, it was ok since I got it for $9.99, but had I paid full price, it would have been a dissapointment.

my well intentioned wife bought me the "total Recall" BD for like $10, she came home and said " look honey I got this for you and it was only $10!" I did mention that is a very bad transfer and when we watched it she said it looks like a regular dvd.
