Hmmm. They shot this movie on Alexa Minis in 'Super 16' mode (1600x900 sensor crop upscaled to 1080p in-camera) with lenses designed for 16mm cameras and added grain in post to dirty it up. 2K finish.
If the German UHD doesn't have HDR - and I don't think it will - then this will be an interesting test of what an upscale can do for a straight 2K SDR 709 source. |

Bluray-disc.de is claiming as such, and as a 2017 film, Detroit has doubtless had an HDR pass done. Normally, I would be suspicious, but Concorde are also claiming their release of the 2017 Russian film Salyut-7 will have HDR, and they have released numerous discs which have been released with HDR in the USA, so I assume they are familiar with it by now. I expect the likes of Howards End will be SDR, but for new films, I have to assume that HDR is not only possible, but likely.
Also, this is technically far from the first local release with HDR, as almost all of the recent local Japanese UHD BDs claim to have HDR, too. So really, I don't think it's that surprising, coming as this is from Germany. EDIT: I think the Iron Man trilogy also all have HDR, so perhaps all Concorde discs will, and perhaps they are doing them in-house. Perhaps someone fluent in German could ask them? The official link for the release is here:
http://www.concorde-movie-lounge.de/...d133ac610c7a2c It looks like the disc should have German and English DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks, plus a German: Dolby Digital 2.0 track and optional German and German SDH subtitles. It should also contain the same exact extras as the Fox Blu-ray, plus the German trailer. |

So far, it seems to be more common on local European releases. From the looks of things, Concorde might be one of them, but someone who has played one or more of their discs needs to chime in.

Concorde is the same company that released the "Iron Man Trilogy" on UHD, which, while not having seen it for myself, but going by people I trust with these things, is supposed to be UHD-crap. With this being natively 1080p, like Geoff pointed out, I'm a happy camper with the US BD. |
