If so, how long after you ate the contaminated food did you begin experiencing symptoms?
I'm talking about salmonella specifically. I think I may have eaten some bad eggs, which can cause salmonella. This was about 15 hours ago. But I read that symptoms can show up anywhere from 12-72 hours afterwards. I'm not throwing up yet, but I'm nervous. ...I'm very nervous. |

Had it a few years ago, mine hit me about 20 hours after eating some undercooked chicken. Once I starting going, it lasted about 2 days. I just drank alot of Powerade, Water and ate what I could hold down. I called my Dr and asked should I take any Immodium and was insructed not to, she stated it can cause the issue to last longer. I did take some meds for the nausea. Good Luck.

FROM CDC WEBSITE
Illness from Salmonella can be serious and is more dangerous for certain people. Older adults, infants, and people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS, diabetes, or an organ transplant, may get a more serious illness that can even be life-threatening. In most cases, illness lasts 4–7 days and people recover without antibiotic treatment. Symptoms include: Diarrhea. Fever. Abdominal cramps. Symptoms typically appear 6 to 48 hours after eating a contaminated food, though this period is sometimes much longer. Some people can have diarrhea many times a day for several days and the sick person may need to be hospitalized. Should I see the doctor? Contact your doctor or healthcare provider if you have: High fever (temperature over 101.5°F). Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving. Bloody stools. Prolonged vomiting that prevents you from keeping liquids down. Signs of dehydration, such as: Making very little urine. Dry mouth and throat. Dizziness when standing up. |

Had the bad chicken for lunch on a wednesday at 11:00 am, when I went to bed that night my stomach started cramping and I felt really sick to my stomach. Woke up about 5:00 am and the diarrhea started, I also had a slight fever. It wasn't explosive, but like clockwork it hit me once every 30 minutes or so. Took nausea meds, tylenol and powerade. I was back to normal by Monday.

were the eggs raw? undercooked? were the eggs cracked before you cooked?
I eat eggs everyday and sometimes I pick one up out of tray and see it is partially cracked so toss it. Usually the shell is sticky because the slight crack in the shell has caused some white to ooze out over the shell. But its very slight. Sometimes hard to notice. I think those are high risk because air has already gotten to the egg white. |

I got it from a place called Chicken Express in Fort Worth. It hit me within a couple of hours. I filled up a plastic Family Dollar bag with vomit on my way to the ER. I made the mistake of drinking Gatorade. They told me I should have used ice chips to rehydrate. I was dry heaving by the time they saw me and started an IV...Took a couple of times because I was so dehydrated. They collected a stool sample and it was clear like water by that point. Apparently they had a kit test and by the time I left a few hours later they already diagnosed it as salmonella. I lost my voice for about a week and dropped about 20 pounds. My dad got it too but it didn't hit him until a day later. Basically the cycle for my body was: diarrhea, followed by the feeling of blacking out, then the vomiting.

It was a chilly night though. None were cracked when I opened the carton and I fried four of them and put it over a bed of brown rice. My stomach doesn't feel good, but no vomiting or anal leakage...yet. I'm at the 23 hour mark since inception. ...I'm scared. |

I expect the next three days or so to be the worst experience of my entire life.
I will not leave the house this weekend. ...I may not even leave the bathroom. [Show spoiler]

We're only about eight hours into the vortex and it's been pure hell.
I don't think I have any bodily fluids left in my body. I can honestly say that I would rather be crucified than suffer this gastrointestinal agony. I know that Christ suffered on the cross. But not like this. ...not like this. |
