Default Election Jan 20th 2009 Release

Anyone else excited about getting Election on Blu Ray? I'm not thrilled with the cover art but it will carry over the audio commentary with Payne from the standard DVD.

I'd be excited if it were Triad Election. However, Election is a little gem that doesn't get enough credit for how interesting it really is.

great movie. very underrated. I might buy this as it has a high "re-watchability" factor for me

DVDBeaver review

I'm another firm believer that this film just doesn't get the attention it deserves.

I'm REALLY psyched about this. Can't believe I had never heard of this film until that bright day I stumbled upon it on Comedy Central. I think I only ended up seeing it straight from beginning to end once though.

Good to see that the transfer seems good too. Fantastic. I just put in a huge order on Amazon, I probably should have plunked this in as a preorder so I could get it sooner rather than later. I definitely need this though, so I'll probably just put down another order on top of that.

Just saw Election for the first time recently, and was quite impressed. I know this film has gotten a lot of buzz & critical acclaim over the years. This film went completely under my radar when it was released in '99 - for some reason, I never heard about it until the past 3-4 years.

In any case, very light-hearted & hilarious film. I laughed out loud numerous times when watching this.

I thought it was hilarious how
[Show spoiler]the high school teacher (M. Broderick) was so jealous of Tracy Flick (Witherspoon) that he would stoop so low as to sabatoge the election results - what a creep. It was also funny that the janitor (who was upset that he spilled crap all over the breakroom floor) retrieved the ballots from the trash can & exposed the teacher's misdeeds - very funny.

The speech by the athlete's sister at the rally as to why the kids should vote for her (or rather, not vote for her) was so awkwardly funny that I wish I had been present for such a speech when I was in high school - it would have made those boring all-hands school events much more entertaining

But, probably the funniest part of the film was at the very end,
[Show spoiler]when the now-former teacher was on vacation in D.C., and spotted Flick getting into a limo - she had apparently gotten a great job in politics?!, and he was so jealous he threw his soda container at the car window & cowardly ran away like a 5-year old - what a tool!

Also was surprised to see how much MB had aged in this film from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. FBDO came out in '86, and Election came out in '99 - a difference of 13 years. However, though MB could easily have passed for a high school kid in FB (I know he was older), he looked middle-aged in Election....

You're making me want to buy the blu and watch it again. It's been too long.

Considering how awful initial Paramount releases like Face / Off and Tommy Boy look, coupled with negative reviews for this disc, I was very concerned. Surprisingly, it looks pretty great in my opinion: a fine layer of grain, decent colors, no DNR. Good thing, too, considering what a great movie it is.

That's good to hear because I had been dragging my feet due to some people saying the blu wasn't that great. Now I won't hesitate. Loved the movie.

You can see it in the site caps. It's not a razor-sharp film to begin with and maybe colors could improve a little with a new master, but all things considered it's a strong, faithful transfer.
