Default Possible grain issue?

Um I did do a bit of a search, it really didn't bring up anything that i was looking for.

Um its a simple question really. I know the 300 has a good bit in it, however its all the way through it as well, that and its produced that way. However I've noticed that some of my BD are weird being that in some scene's there is almost no grain. however in the very next scene there is a lot of grain then the next there is none. Is it supposed to be that way. Or is there a setting I have missed.
-50" full HD plazma
-40G PS3
-HDMI for video.

AN example of what I'm refering to=TDK when bruce is talking to alfred after capturing Scare crow and the batman want-to-be's. There are scene's that are crystal clear but the next scene there is a good bit of grain, then it's gone in the very next scene.

Also I'm assuming the grain deal is when it looks like their is a snowy type of texture on the scene, like when you come up to a channel and all you get is that snowy picture is that correct?

various scenes on various movies will have grain while others don't, depending on the scene that was shot. for instance, nighttime scenes generally have more grain and/or digital noise than daytime scenes. it's completely normal for certain scenes to have more grain than others. the amount of grain is not generally uniform throughout a movie.

and cmon, i dont know how much i believe you when you say you searched for this already. you realize there are like 100+ threads about grain, right?

oh i have, but with the topic of grain people on here can get strangely annoyed when it keeps coming up. no worries, hope your problem has been solved. adjusting your sharpness if it is all the way up will help reduce grain as well in addition to turning off any special features your TV may have (i.e. stuff like "TRUE MOTION ENHANCEMENT" etc etc). Most of those "enhancements" do more harm then good. hope this helps! i'm sure other people will chime in too.

The Dark Knight varies so much in grain structure because portions of the movie were filmed in Imax while the rest of the movie was shot with normal 35mm film. What you are seeing is somewhat a byproduct of that. 300 is grainy because the director wanted that look for the movie.

Yea I understand that with 300, and to be honest I think it actually addds to the movie if you know I mean. As far as TDK. Why would they film part of it in IMAX and the rest in 35MM, what does that achieve. Didn't know they did that in movie's. See it's true you do learn something new everyday.

THIS^^^^^ A far more succinct explanation that I would have given (I like to ramble)

Watch all the extras on your Blu-ray of the movie. They have quite a lot about why they did the IMAX scenes in IMAX. In short, it would have been too expensive to do the ENTIRE film in IMAX, but they wanted to add some "spectacle" to the big action scenes and panoramic shots, so they did those in IMAX and the rest in 35mm.

IMAX = bigger frame, so less noticeable grain. 35mm = smaller frame, so more noticeable grain. Grain is normal for film. The smaller the original film frame, the more noticeable the grain.

But there's ALWAYS grain in film, it's how the image is created. It supposed to be that way. Without grain, we wouldn't have film - simple as that.

I turn of the Black Stretch enhancement on my Toshiba for all Blu-rays and 300 on DVD.

100% agree with above that most of those enhancements usually do more harm than good some of the time.
