I have a 46" Samsung 850 and sit about 7.5 ft from tv. I don't see
much grain, even on movies that have alot of grain. When I get closer I can see it much better. Is my tv too small? from what I have read I'm sitting at the right distance. On movies like 300 I could see grain on my older 46" Samsung. I don't have NR on, does anyone have an explanation or could it be my 850 isn't as good as I thought? |

Actually using overpriced Monster Cable HDMI cables. ( got a great deal on them). I used the same cables on my Samsung 630 and could see grain fine. I'm watching Blue Thunder right now and there is quite a bit of grain when o stand a couple feet away but can't see but a little when I sit down. Picture looks great though. Maybe my eyes are defective

I do like a little grain I'd that's what is intended but I think the issue I am having is I had grain on my other tv which is in theory was a lesser model.

I didn't have old one calibrated but I am having this one done August 25th. Ironic before I got this one I kept reading on these posts how grain is so awful to alot of people who didn't like it but here I am complaining about not having enough. As long as grain isn't a direct reflection of quality of tv I can live with it. I just wanted to know if it was or if I needed a bigger tv (which will probably mean divorce papers in my near future).

Is AMP turned on? If it is then try turning it off and see if the grain returns. Your old set did not have AMP and is probably why you saw the grain then and aren't seeing it now.

For the most part, I don't see grain either. But, I suspect it is because I grew up watching "snowy" television and watching movies on the big screen (back when the screen was actually big), and looking at slides on a home projector. I am oblivious to grain - it doesn't come to my attention when it's there, and I don't miss it when it's not.
As for "300", the last time a watched it on HD-DVD played on a CRT HDTV, it looked a lot more like "snow" than "grain". I ssem to be very sensitive to video noise, but not to grain. If you are happy with the appearance of your monitor, there is no reason to worry about what the "grain snobs" think. ![]() |

If you watch the black a white portion at the beginning of "Casino Royale" and can't see grain then you've got a problem. That scene is filmed to be deliberately grainy as it's a flashback. It's a swirling grain-lover's dream!

I see grain really close to my TV and of course if a movie is grain infested. But then sometimes I see TV's on display that I'm standing right in front off, with near perfect clearness. who knows. |
