I didn't see much in 2017 but I liked what I did with the exception of the stains that are Justice League and Alien Covenant.

Blade Runner 2049
Star Wars The Last Jedi
mother!
Logan

Beauty And The Beast
Kong Skull Island

Greatest Showman, Guardians 2, Beauty & The Beast, IT, Wind River for top 5.

Unsure the real number, as my list isn't up to date, but think I saw around 205 2017 releases thus far.

We have both a full ranking thread and a best of the year poll, but, sure, this may as well exist too. This is what I voted for in the poll:

  3. Molly's Game
  4. The Disaster Artist
  5. Good Time
  6. All the Money in the World
  7. A Cure For Wellness
  8. Free Fire
  9. The Florida Project
  10. Detroit
  11. American Made
  12. Brawl in Cell Block 99
  13. Get Out
  14. mother!
  15. Dunkirk
  16. John Wick: Chapter 2
  17. Blade of the Immortal
  18. Mom and Dad
  19. Bladerunner 2: 2049
  20. Better Watch Out
Also, since making that I saw Victor Crowley and it was pretty awesome. Probably be around #10. Cell Block 99 should probably be a few spots higher. Also I didn't see Loveless and that might be pretty high when I do.

Also, the worst of the year was The Shape of Water.

Note that while I did "love" the top few films up there, there were no all-time classics this year. I mean, time might tell a different story, but I do not see even Thee Billboards ever entering my top 300 or so.

Mine is still David Lynch: The Art Life -- which, btw, wasn't even nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars, which I find perplexing.

I haven't seen it, but I loathe David Lynch as an artist and don't like a single one of his films. So pretentious. David Lynch is to movies what Morrissey is to music. (Hate him too)

We clearly have different tastes.

But it really isn't about his films at all. As I said when I first talked about it, Lynch isn't into explaining stuff to begin with. He talks about his childhood, his painting, etc. It's a fascinating look into how his mind works. I find the dichotomy between the dream-scape of his films and what a regular, midwestern guy he is to be compelling.
