Also, I have a Sony 900E and I am using the display calibration settings on Rtings website for this particular TV. I’m sure the TV settings I am using have an impact on how the player settings affect the picture, but I thought I would share either way. Still annoyed that I still have to choose my user setting on the player EVERY time I pop in a 4K blu-ray.
I have the 870 and I can't find any of these settings in video. Am I looking in the wrong place??

EDIT: I found the settings. Thanks.

It is automatically up converting everything, so it shows up in 2160.

USA LG-UP875 region coding.

Is there any way to change the LG-UP875 to region free? It's getting harder and harder to find Region 1 3D versions of new releases. Thor: Ragnarok isn't being released in The States in 3D. How is that even possible? Help a nerd out!! LOL

Is there some trick to getting ATMOS out of the LG-UP875 player? On the Hans Zimmer Live in Prague UHD, I select ATMOS from the disc audio menu. The MRX 720 shows it as TrueHD and the word "ATMOS" occasionally flashes but no sound from the height speakers. I have sent a request to Anthem support to make sure the amp is set up correctly (using the 2nd zone for height). New HDMI cable certified for UHD. thanks!

I don't think there's a way to make the player region unlocked, I have though seen region-free versions of this player on Amazon and Ebay for about $250.
Btw Disney (as well as Sony, Universal, and Warner Bros) has released several of their Blu-rays region-free so I can't see why the UK 3D Blu-ray of Thor Ragnarok wouldn't play here in the states.

Okay. I was wondering about that. I wasn't sure if a region free disc would play on a region 1 player. Thanks.

Does anyone know why certain HDMI cables don't work with this model? I just got it in the mail today and it will only work with my Nintendo Switch HDMI cable and none of my other 3 that I've used and tested on my standard Blu-ray player and laptop.

Do I need a specific "2.0" HDMI cable or whatever that even is? I looked online and it said that your current HDMI cables should work fine with a 4K player so I didn't bother to buy any new ones.

Not sure. I bought a new 4k cable at Walmart for like $10 or so. 4k disc look better than BD disc so I can only assume it's doing its job.

I have no idea, I'm using a AmazonBasics HDMI cable and everything works fine including HDR10.

I am eyeing and researching on UP870 for awhile now, but I am holding back on getting this since a few questions remain unanswered:

a. This player supports Dolby Atmos but not DTS-X, but how does it handle DTS-X audio from 4K and standard blu-ray titles (Jason Bourne, Atomic Blonde, etc.)? Does it simply downconvert it to DTS-HD MA?

b. In the absence of an onboard DTS-X decoder, can this player send the DTS-X signal to a capable AV receiver (Onkyo TX-NR676) and reproduce DTS-X in a 5.1.2 speaker setup?

Does anybody have a firsthand experience on this?

DTS:X should play fine as long as your receiver supports it. Normally the only thing a Blu-ray player really needs at all is bitstream support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, AV receivers usually handle the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding for you.

i appreciate the response. What you said above is correct, but I became a little hesitant after I came across this entry from the owner's manual (page 21):

"When [Digital Output] option is set to [Auto], the audio may output as bitstream. If the Bitstream information is not detected from HDMI device with EDID, the audio may output as PCM."

As I understand the footnote (and please correct me if I am wrong), it is possible that the signal may not be passed to the receiver in the form of bitstream but as PCM instead. While PCM (LPCM) is lossless audio, nevertheless it is still not DTS:X.

I'm pretty sure what that is saying if the connected device, TV or receiver, doesn't indicate it can accept an audio codec as bitstream by EDID then the player decodes the codec itself and outputs PCM. But I'm pretty sure the 870/875 can't decode Dolby Atmos or DTS X, so the only way you'll get that audio is bitstreamed to a receiver that can decode it.

My receiver is model back from yours, Onkyo TX-NR656, and I see Armos or X displayed on the receiver LED from my 870 player when a disc has either audio.

I was having second thoughts on getting this player for awhile but I'm glad there's a member here who has a similar HT setup and put my worries to rest. Now I have just completed placing an order for this player! Thanks Duke!

I think you'll enjoy it, very nice player and a great value. And I see you have the same practice as I do - before I buy a new electronic device I download the owner manual PDF and read through it thoroughly to make sure it will do what I want & need.

And while I say it's a great value (I got mine on the Walmart $49 clearance), it ended up costing me some major bucks! I had a 50" Hinsense 4k TV that I got for a great deal on Cyber Monday 2016. When I got the 870 I had to run an HDMI directly to the TV as my old Onkyo receiver couldn't handle 4k. I liked what I saw from the 870 so I upgraded to an Onkyo NR656. Then I really liked what I saw & heard (love Atmos!), but the Hisense didn't have HDR so I upgraded to a 65" Sony XBR850E. I think hope I'm done upgrading for now.

Reading manuals is a rarity nowadays . Most people have no patience leafing through 30+ pages of technical details, but I always make it a point to do an advance research which includes going over specifications, manuals and feedback on the products I am considering to purchase.
Yes, I call it 'the 4K domino effect' Indeed, this is a very expensive hobby; it's a never ending upgrade as we all know it. Still buying standard BDs in the last two months but this will quickly change once my brand spanking new 4K UHD BD player arrives

My UP875 (which I love, by the way) received an update Sunday when I started it up, although I can't find any info on what the update contained. I chatted with an LG rep online and he said he couldn't find record of any update being available. This was the 2nd update I've had since I bought it in February.

Anyone else's 875 receive an update lately?

I have UP870, and also received a 2nd update this past Monday, but not sure what it was for either. Just glad they're continuing to provide updates for this model. Any idea if these models might get Dolby Vision update, or is LG going to make consumers buy their latest model to get DV?

Probably not, only the UP970 and UBK90 models support Dolby Vision. The basic entry-level models UP870 and UBK80 will only ever support the regular HDR10 standard.
