Post LG UP875 4K UHD Blu-ray player

Did anyone know around here that LG released their new 4K Blu-ray player last month or two?
The UP875 will not any smart features (like Youtube, Netflix, etc.) at all and unlike its older brother UP970, it will also not have Dolby Vision at all but will have HDR10 support though. This time is the best time to get them, they're currently on sale for $100, get it now while it lasts.

Here's the UP875 version:
http://www.lg.com/us/home-video/lg-UP875-blu-ray-player
Attachment 188755

Keep in mind if you want Dolby Vision on your 4K player, this will not be for you therefore get either LG UP970 or the expensive Oppo instead. And if Wi-Fi is important on your Blu-ray player, this is not for you therefore look elsewhere. If you just want a good 4K Blu-ray player at a great price and not needy for the likes of Netflix, you've came to the right place.

Ordered this for my dad for Christmas. It was either this or the Sony UBP-X800 for $50 more, but only difference really was the wi-fi and apps, which he doesn't really need since his TV has them.

Hoping it works well! Got him The Revenant 4K to go with it (and he can use any of my 4K movies too of course).

Yes, it has a Ethernet port, mostly just for updates though.

I got an 875 over Christmas. it's a very simple and yet nice player. you can even adjust the subtitles for projector screens like the Oppo players (have the 93). the one thing that I was most impressed was.. how fast it was.. coming from a 93.. it was very nice.

My player reports that it is sending a 4K signal (confirmed from my Samsung KS8000 display and my Onkyo 646), even while watching Blu-Ray or DVD disks that are clearly not 4K. Is this normal? Is this the "upconverting" at work? Just curious

Could be that you have the player set the resolution to "2160p". If you rather have the TV do the upscaling, then go to the settings on your 4K Blu-ray player and see resolution, change it from "2160p" to "Auto", let me know if you notice any change.

Was able to pick up an 870 this morning at my local Walmart for $49. For that price, I'm completely ok with what this player can do, or can't, and what features it includes. Great entry level player into the UHD game.

No sh*t, you really paid $49 for the UP870 at your Walmart?

Anyone know what the difference is between the UP870 and UP875? Did some researching on LG's website, and even the tech specs are identical. Is it retailer specific? I saw that Best Buy has UP875 and says it's a "Best Buy Exclusive."

Yepp!! Actually did. I have three walmarts locally and two had it for $79 and one had it for $49. Don't know why, but the only question I asked when I went at 5am when they opened was, where is it? Lol

I verified that I am set on Auto, yet anytime I watch something less than 4k, my display and my AVR report that the signal they are receiving is 2160p

It is automatically up converting everything, so it shows up in 2160.

USA LG-UP875 region coding.

Is there any way to change the LG-UP875 to region free? It's getting harder and harder to find Region 1 3D versions of new releases. Thor: Ragnarok isn't being released in The States in 3D. How is that even possible? Help a nerd out!! LOL

I got a firmware update for this last night, but can't find any release notes anywhere. Anyone have an idea of what was done?

Is there any specific way to set it up to get the most out of it? Out of the box it seemed fairly dark when watching the martian.

Sometimes I change picture settings through the player.
Press "info" button on remote, then go over to "options", afterwards you should adjust picture modes to the way you like it like Vivid for example.

Default Walmart Clearance

Currently at $25 at Walmart, which is insane for a 4K UHD player with HDR capability as well as 3D capability. It's cheaper than regular BD player without WiFi too.
