As far as quality goes, YES. I don't have an expensive sound system... so I don't know about that. PQ is great though.

While I love this show the homosexuality might throw many off. The main character is gay in real life and plays bi on the show.

I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, loved Captain Jack on Doctor Who, but the character didn't seem to transition very well over to Torchwood. I was highly disapointed in the first season, and never gave the second season a chance. I might have to pick it up again and give it another chance.

Yes, but if you find that it is not quite all you are looking for, but almost... wait for the second season, it is much better.

I agree. I actually like the first season more the second time. Once you understand the characters it's much more enjoyable.

almost EVERY member of the team is bi and has made out with the same sex they make fun of it on the disk for the 3 or 4th show

i like the show and got it in part to get them the idea they need to put Dr Who in Blu i will not pay $80 for a DVD set

I'd say all the guys are at least somewhat bi. And the girls have at least had "moments" (though Gwen wasn't in control of herself).

I thought the first season was good, but the second season is the best. Hopefully there will be a third. If you aren't sure, maybe rent them first and see what you think. Some people might not feel it's their cup of tea.

If you like these type of shows, check out Sarah Jane Adventures. Season 2 just finished airing in the UK a short time ago. I believe Season 1 has been airing on BBC America, but I'm not sure about season 2.

Yes especially at the super low price at Amazon of $42.49. If you have never seen the show I would recommend it. I am a huge Dr Who fan and I found Capt Jack Harkness an appealing character and John Barrowman is also an excellent actor. The stories are quite good in the first season.

It's one of my favorite scifi series along with Battlestar Galactica. The show is very well written, well acted and offers fantastic video. I'd say go for it. If it turns out you don't like the show, it has enough of a following that you should be able to sell your disks. I enjoy the show so much that I paid a premium and purchased the uk HD DVD edition from Amazon UK. (This was before I purchased my blu ray player. )

I found the first season to be very hit and miss, like they weren't quite sure what direction to go with the show. The second season was a VAST improvement, with more focus on tracking down aliens and alien technology and whatnot, rather than focussing on who's sleeping with who for half the season. There's still plenty of that going on, of course, but it was much more tastefully done this season.

Also more humor in the second season (which I found the first season lacked and desperately needed), which REALLY helps to break the tension and lighten things up a bit. The first season tended to take itself waaayy too seriously a lot of the time, and I think that hurt it a lot. All in all, the second season was more "well-balanced" and satisfying. I'm actually looking forward to the third season. I would recommend checking out the second season, even if you weren't wild about the first.

So a Dr Who spin off that is well written, well acted and fantastic video? I don't disbelieve you, but damn, that is like the polar opposite of the series it spun off of...

It was a blind buy for me which I don't regret it at all. Now I can't wait for season 2 on BD
And then season 3! I read somewhere they're toning it down for US market though

I might have to check out the second season then. I had high hopes for it because I figured it was a CSI/Dr. Who not a lets make out with everybody fest. If I had wanted that, I would have watched Desperate Housewives or Sex and the City.

Are the UK and US editions identical?

What about packaging?

Thanks!

Comparing the two features-wise, looks like they both have the same contents. The packaging is quite different, though. The U.K. version basically just has the logo with the stylized "T" in the background, whereas the U.S. version has a group shot of the team.
