Default Advanced Speaker Setup

Hi,

I was wondering if I could get some input from the pros around here. This is my first "nicer" reciever and speaker setup so Im still learning about all the features. You can see what I have in my sig. The room I'm in is not a large room but for some reason when I ran the YPAO with the mic it kept saying E1 no front speakers until I moved the mic closer to the unit and away from the "sweet spot". I wasnt even close to using the full length of the mic wire and the room was 100% silent so im not sure why that would happen. I just wanted to know if there was anyone with the same setup as me (speakers/avr) that could point me in a good starting direction for setting up frequencies and everything. I am running HDMI to everything and the only thing I've done so far with the unit is the YPAO.

Thanks

That's odd... what kind of distances are we talking about here?

How many feet did you have to move it before it would finally take a reading?

Also, is anything obstructing a line of site path between your speakers and the place of your original measurement?

It's a straight shot to the mic and I had to move in to about half the length of the mic wire before it would finish the setup. I'm pretty sure the unit automatically sets the volume for the test but maybe that can be adjusted. Could it be the omni speakers? I wouldnt know where to start if I have to manually set everything.

Maybe it's the wide dispersal of the soundfield with those speakers.

Anyway, manually just measure speaker distances and set them. Try starting out with all of the speakers (except maybe the center) outputting at the same db, then adjust as you listen. As far as crossovers, take a look at the Mirage's stats, but 80hz is a pretty good place to start.

I have the 863 and ran YPAO last night. If polarity is off it will tell you when it finishes up the process. Maybe the mic is bad?

Regardless, a manual setup if you have to do it isn't so bad with a tape measurer and decent pair of ears. I usually do quite a bit of adjusting after YPAO finishes its business anyway.

I think I will just use what the ypao gave me as a start and measure everything. Any other suggestions for the Nanosat 5.1 system?
