Why is the release price so high? It does not seem to have the cast, subject, HD potential or length to support that.

What does subject/cast have to do with a blu-ray's price?

I saw this at the theater, and it's a very solid movie, though nothing groundbreaking and certainly not Oscar-worthy. It's engaging and informative, and Jason Clarke's performance as Ted Kennedy is excellent, but I wish it developed Mary Jo Kopechne better. In life, her legacy will forever be "that girl who Ted Kennedy maybe killed," and that's sadly her role in this film too (as good as Kate Mara's performance was). I would've probably devoted the first half of the film to her perspective, and the second with Ted, following her death. I think that would've been more interesting, and could've produced something more thrilling, while doing her character a bit more justice.

Just recently saw this on Blu. Chappaquiddick was a decent - but not great - film, with solid casting. I was fairly unfamiliar with the real-life incident (it happened before my time) other than some brief snippets I read about over the years. So, it was good to see a film based on the event that "filled in the gaps".

It seems obvious that they probably had to wait until the actual people featured in this case died before they made a film based on the event.

Well said. The movie was ultimately lacking in a couple areas, but the dual perspective would have been a better approach.

Interestingly enough, there was pressure from high power individuals not wanting the film to be released.

Quote:
In a March 2018 interview, Byron Allen, CEO of Entertainment Studios, which distributed the film, stated that "there are some very powerful people who tried to put pressure on me not to release this movie". Boston Herald journalist Howie Carr speculated that this was a reference to Chris Dodd, who had been a longtime friend and ally of Kennedy's when he served in the U.S. Senate, and had more recently been president of the Motion Picture Association of America

Perhaps that's why it took so many years to get a film about.
