If it's even released. And if it actually does well at the box office.

Yeah okay. Then I guess you think Christopher Nolan is an idiot then? I guess you just figure they were like oh, well, let's just give the Batman franchise over to some tool like Nolan. Yeah, I am sure that was the case.

It will be released and it will do very well just like 300 did.

Frankly the lawsuit will probably bring more attention to the film.

From the look of it, it would have been another "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" level flop.
I would have to disagree with you on that statement. I work at a book store and predicted as soon as I saw TDK that Watchmen would fly off of the shelves. These are people who saw the trailer, wanted to not just watch the movie but invest 3-4 hours reading the graphic novel. I have never seen enthusiasm for a comic based film like that ever. No one ran out and bought "The Long Halloween" or "The Killing Joke" after the TDK trailers but Watchmen is still #3 or #4 on the fiction bestsellers and you know a large majority of those customers will indeed have their asses in the seats March 6th because of what a brilliant piece of fiction it is. After all, who could have predicted 300's success?

You sure are fond of putting words in other peoples' mouths...

The fact is that until this movie is released, none of us knows how big it will be.

But one thing everyone but yourself seems to know is that it is nowhere near as highly-anticipated as The Dark Knight. If it were, it'd be released on a major movie weekend (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labour Day), not a non-holiday weekend at the beginning of March.

And guess what? Saying what I just said does not equate to slagging the film, its director, its stars, its production company, or its studio. I'm looking forward to it, in fact. But to say it's as anticipated as The Dark Knight, well...that's just ludicrous.

I think it will do quite well. I have never heard of the watchmen before and I am quite looking forward to this movie just from the previews I have seen.

not sure that this movie is going to be as big as the dark knight because its not going to get the oscar buzz, the heath ledger press, or anything like that, so no the hype level for this movie is not close to that scale. however this movie could blow and still surpass 70 million opening weekend because of that core fanbase. i mean synder who is 2 for 2 (and yes that is important) has a fanbase of his own that will go see this movie. but nevertheless the hype around this film is big throughout the internet, the comic people and movie buffs, and we have seen how they can boost a movie to 70-80 million opening weekend no problem. is going to get national talk to the scale of the dark knight probably not but it doesnt matter because people will still see this movie no matter what.

I've not read the novel. I saw the preview. I want to see it. From what I gather this is a different take on superheroes. I'm in great anticipation of any superhero movie if it has a good script and good actors. I'm in great anticipation of Thor and Green Lantern.

Default News Break

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, however, Watchman is not coming out in Blu Ray.
It will be released in the theatre 3/6/09. NOT BLU RAY!

This is a Blu Ray thread.

This wasn't directed to you. It was directed to the Beast who claimed, "WB can't find their butts with 2 hands" in addition to saying "they would hand over Watchmen to just anyone like Zack Snyder".

Your comment about it being released on a major holiday is not true. That has nothing to do with how anticipated a movie is.

You can ignore how anticipated is and be ignorant. That's fine.

Duh!!! You think?

People talk about movies being released in the theater on here. You must be new to this board.

No, this thread is about Watchmen.

I'm not talking about Nolan or Dark Knight.

I'm talking about every other DC Comic movie. You know, the ones that WB doesn't know what to do with, throws money at, and then kills, so that other studios can't get a chance at them. Or movies like the now dead Shazam, that they wanted DARK like Batman. Again, WB doesn't know a damn thing about their own properties.

Actually, if you look at drama from it's earliest beginnings in Greece and all over actually, the best drama has always been a Hero who falls. Showing your Hero in a story dealing with human problems and how they come to terms with that.

WB is actually going the right way here. The problem they've had in the past is the superhero films they make have been hard to relate to. The Dark Knight is the complete opposite of that partly because Bruce Wayne is human, but we feel his struggle and we see the choices he makes.

The "darkness" WB is trying to elicit here is not so much let's make an evil character but one who is dealing with these things and how they fit into society.

The end of The Dark Knight proved this and showed this very well.
And you see this in "Watchmen".
