Default White man's town, black man's law! Boss N-Bomb comes to Blu, August 14!

Holy crap! I never thought I'd see Boss ****** come to blu ray - AND with the original title, too! But lookie here, over on amazon:

Quote:
EXTRAS:
* Original Theatrical Trailers
* Video Specials: A Conversation With Fred, The Hammer, Williamson with Joel Blumberg
* Video Specials: A Boss Memory with producer Myrl Schreibman
* Video Specials: A Jack Arnold Tribute to Producer Myrl Schreibman

Always being in the mood for a little Fred The Hammer Williamson, I'm totally getting this. I'm betting that Walmart and Target wont be carrying this.

I always figured, if this movie came out, they'd change the title to "The Boss" or something (at least on the cover). I've never seen it, only the trailer on a DVD compilation. Here's hoping it doesn't get derailed by some manufactured outcry....

It's a pretty good film, hopefully the theme song will be uncensored too. It's one of the all time great movie theme songs, check it out on YouTube.

Yes, I have it on DVD, and it simply says, "Boss" on the front cover. When you watch it, though, the title and song are uncensored.

If I was in charge of releasing it, ^ that's what I'd do, with reversible uncensored artwork.

That's smart. Perhaps using one of the alternate titles: The Black Bounty Hunter or Black Bounty Killer. Dig up some vintage posters and turn Walmart's prudishness into an advantage.

Super excited! I love this movie and have avoided buying the DVD in hopes an uncensored version would come to Blu-ray and here we are! Never even heard of Kit Parker Films but I hope they managed to throw in a Fred Williamson audio commentary or something!

Well I guess it was too good to be true. They officially changed the title, and cover art to just say "Boss"..Perhaps there might be a reversible cover with the original art.

Disappointed? Yes. Shocked? Not in the slightest.

Title change aside, I'm more upset by the new, shit cover artwork. Why they didnt keep the original theatrical poster art baffles me.

EDIT - I emailed Kit Parker Films to see if they would use the original title on the cover reverse and if they movie itself would be uncensored. Will report back in when/if they answer.

i hate they changed the title, but i am looking forward to it. it was what it was, it was a reflection of that time, you can't change that.

Hi El_Fez,

Thanks for writing. The original artwork will indeed be on the reverse, and the
movie itself will be uncensored.

Best,
Kit

Not the first time this happened:

The Blu-rays are the same way, the Blu I bought at Big Lots has the Zach and Miri only title on outside art. But the disc and the movie have the original full title.

Haha, jeez, the Zack and Miri thing is moronic.

I get this, if it was actually in a store that would very understandably cause negative reactions. The movie being uncensored and the cover being reversible mean no one should be mad at the label.

I've heard this is a pretty good blaxploitation movie, it's on my short list of them that I want to see.

It's just for the cover art and listing... you didn't seriously expect them to keep the listing with the N-word on a mainstream site like Amazon, did you?

Looks like it got pushed to the 28th. I'm curious to read reviews, though I don't have high expectations for this release.

Mine showed up today, and while I haven't had a chance to watch the whole movie I did spin it up to look at the extras and take a peek at how it looked. The disc art for the DVD side looks nearly identical to the old DVD release. If not for the VCI logo on the disc, I would have sworn they were the same.

Looks like the extras are ported over from the old DVD, too.

As far as how the disc looks - eh, about what you would expect for a blaxsploitation flick from '75. The blu ray looks a little bit better, but the gains are probably marginal enough that if you have the old VCI DVD already, it's probably not worth the upgrade. Oh, and the title of the movie is indeed the full strength version and the reversible cover is what we all first saw, the Walmart Unfriendly version.

I cant believe this made it to Blu, and that I missed the announcement.

Though since hearing it's on par with the DVD, I guess its not a day one priority since I already have it.

I love "blaxploitation" but never seen this one, probably because it's a western. IMDB lists it as a comedy as well... is it more funny or serious? Violent and action-y or no?
