Question BDP - BX1 and Bose V20 surround system

Help. We have the BDP - BX! and the Bose V20 surround sound system. The HD cable box and blue ray all go through the media center for the bose system. When playing regular dvds through the blue ray player we get 5.1 surround sound as well as from regular cable shows in 5.1 When we put in a blue ray we are only getting PCM 2.0 sound. All connections are HDMI and the settings on the t.v. , blue ray and even the adjustments on the individuals cds settings menues have been checked and double checked. Any suggestions?

Your setup only limits HD audio to 2.0 PCM.
The Bose system does not support anything higher and the player knows this via the HDMI EDID data channel.
(Normal DD and DTS will come in at 5.1 however becasue of the much lower bandwidth.)

Hookup a coaxial (rca) cable from the player (page 21 in the BX-1 manual) to your Bose system and set the audio output priority to Coaxal/optical on the bluray player. (page 45 in the BX-1 manual)
You will also have to tell the Bose to use coaxial as your audio source for that HDMI input. (Page 45 in the bose manual)
The player will then only output DD and DTS core (at 5.1)to your system from your blurays.

Thumbs up blue ray and bose v20

Thank you for the advice and information, we will try that and see how it goes. We appreciate the assistance. I already had it boxed up and ready to return out of shear frustration.

Talking

You rock! We hooked up the optical cable to the blue ray and to the media center on the bose system for that device. We then changed the setting on the blue ray to output optical and then assigned the optical settting on the bose for that device. IT WORKED!! We are not up to speed on the new technology and still do not fully understand why it was not working with the way we had it connected or why it works now. If you have the time and can explain it in simplier terms ( if its possible) that would be even more appreciated. Thank you sooooo....much.

Great to hear that everything is working.

HDMI can be a pain.
The best way to think about it is like a chain.
And a chain is only as "strong" as its weakest link.

HD audio (either TrueHD or DTS Master HD or 7.1 PCM) found on Blurays is the "strongest" link. Two channel PCM (2.0) is the "weakest".
Since the Bose system does not decode HD audio, it became the weakest link while playing Blurays.

Now 5.1 Dolby or DTS does not sound bad at all (great most of the time really)
Don't take "weakest link" as a knock on the Bose. This problem would have happened on any audio system with HDMI but no HD audio (trueHD, etc) capabilities.

What I suggested was to bypass the HDMI audio chain altogether and default to plain (but still great sounding!) 5.1 Dolby and DTS.

Hope I didn't confuse anyone anymore than I had to.

Enjoy your system!
