Default Home vs Theatre - is time a consideration?

So, most of us are on this forum because we like the experience of movies at home more than theatre. It's been threaded ad nauseum - cell phones, sticky seats/floors, poor projection, muddy sound, etc etc.
However, how do you feel about having to wait for your movies? There's stuff out now (The Wrestler, Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire, etc) that I really want to see, but I'd rather spend $30 on the blu-ray (or rent it) than spend $30 for my wife and I to see it in the theatre (incl popcorn, etc). However, the wait is killing me, as I'm getting lots of recommendations from friends to see these.

Is this a consideration for y'all? Or are you happy just waiting to see stuff on everyone's favorite format?

I don't really have a problem with a theater. I would rather see the movie earlier then wait for it to come out on Blu. I've waited years for Star Trek to come out, I'm not waiting another 3-4 months! If I want to see the movie, I just don't see the point in waiting any longer once I know I can see it then and there.

I have enough unwatched stuff to keep me going until new movies come out.

I have a semi-decent home theatre style setup, for me its the money. I would rather just buy a decent movie and keep it than to pay and watch it on the big screen. Plus I don't have to roll the dice on whether the movie is going to be interupted by a screaming baby or some jack *** that won't stop talking during it.

More of a pain/ability thing for me - plus all the people/cell phones/prices on top of it all.

I'll wait, buy it, and if it is worth keeping, have it at my disposal for replay anytime I wish.

YMMV

Unless it's a movie my g/f and I really want to see, I don't bother with going to the Theatre anymore. I can wait for the BD release and, in fact, I wait longer than that as I won't pay $30 for a new BD release either.

I simply don't get out to the movies all that often. Yet sometimes it is a lot of fun to get out of the house and go see something brand new at the theater, though. When I do that, it is something I really want to see and I often don't bother with add on expenses such as food, drink etc (unless I sneak it in, haha). Matinees or going super late is better than prime time weekend slots- more risk of annoyances that will otherwise make me wish I stayed at home and waited the time for it to come out on video. I have some gift card movie tickets that I plan to use with my S.O. sometime soon, so we are going to chose our movie wisely (perhaps a BD contender, ya know?).

I can't STAND popcorn crunchers...(close your G!@#$#N MOUTH!). I'm doing my best to wait for the blus. However, I will suck it up for IMAX presentations, especially 3-D..

I don't care about watching movies in theater. If I do it's because my mom wanted to. I can wait.

The only reason I'll see a movie in the theater is to see it early, and for stuff I want to see that's usually enough. I consider home viewing a superior experience though, even if the theater is supposed to be better PQ/AQ that's minimized by all the other hassles/costs/distractions. For me calling the theater a better experience is like saying a blu-ray with sound cutout every 10 seconds is still superior to its DVD.

I normally prefer to just wait for the release on Blu. I invested in a high end system quite a number of years ago and have subsequently replaced much of the gear just before and after the purchase of my Blu-ray player. I take advantage of my system which should normally outperform a theater for sound.

But does your speakers actually match the quality of the ones at a cinema?

Yes, IMAX 3D is a lot of fun. Just gotta go early to find the best seat positioning. I hate paying the prices though

The main reason I don't go to the movies anymore are the people. I remember seeing Transformers and the whole time these group of girls kept commenting on the main character's room, clothes, and other irrelevant crap. If you're going to talk the entire time and not watch the movie, why did you come in the first place?

I have them beat on audio by a long shot. The only thing they have me on is screen size and release date.

Waiting 90-120 days from the theatrical release only adds to the anticipation.

+1! It amazes me still that when I go to the theater now, I find myself thinking, "Wow... this picture is bad" or "Man, the sound just isn't as crisp as I'm used to".

The only reason I trek out to the theater anymore is if there is a movie playing that I have eagerly been anticipating (see: Dark Knight, Burn After Reading, Benjamin Button). I *might* go see "Watchmen" but that's iffy for a number of reasons. If I don't see that then the next time I'll be in a theater will be in May when Star Trek comes out.

Default Theatre vs Home

The theatre picture quality is certaintly poor.

The audio quality in the theatre is great in my opinion.

The bigest reason I go to the theatre is to see a movie I have not seen before.
