Correct, but as it relates to gaming, that really is not applicable to what is being discussed in this thread.

O.K. I will say this the only plasma that has resolved burn in and image burn (yes they are two different things) is pioneer. Panasonic, LG, samsung, ect... still have problems with burn in. I had a samsung plasma for 9 months and there was a ton of burn in on it. I do work at a store that carries plasma's, LCD's, ect... The repair people hate plasma's just for that one issue. I get calls daily for people that have burn in and image burn on their tv's, most of them don't even game. Some of them only have had their tv for 3 weeks. So to say the burn in and image burn are problems are a thing of the past is a false and incorrect statement. Look at the price of a protection plan on an lcd for $1000 and a Plasma at $1000 the plasma's protection plan is always higher. Why is that? Plasma's are more prone to problems (i.e. burn in)!! So to some it up plasma's suck and are terrible for gaming end of story.

I went from LCD to plasma and notice a huge difference. Even in gaming (I threw in GRID) and felt the colors and blacks were creamy and rich. Loved it MUCH more than my LCD. The best thing is that I've only had the TV for just over 24 hours. I noticed it as soon as I turned it on.
Plasma any day for me. Last edited by Hammie; 01-14-2009 at 12:30 AM. |

I don't care what anyone says, LCD is the best for my tastes. The burn-in of plasmas was the first strike, and the glare was the second. Then when I went to the store and did visual comparisons on all the TVs that were on display, I didn't find the plasmas all that impressive. While I was blown away by the Sony Bravia lineup. Winner - LCD by TKO.

Gaming looks excellent on my plasma, especially CoD4 ![]() I broke in my plasma by running it the 1st year at 50% on contrast/color/brightness. Probably didn't need to go that long like that but I forgot about it, since the image was good anyways. Today it's entirely tweaked for best PQ, and I couldn't be happier. LCDs make the image too flat looking IMO. Plasma all the way. Oh, and I've played Sid Meyer's Civ Rev for over 8 hours the 1st day I got it, constantly play CoD4 for a min of 1 hour (often 2+), AND I've fallen asleep numerous times while the tv sits in the blu menu for 2-3 hours avg, including 2-3 times over 5 hours! I've never had any burn-in, and as for IR, it goes away in a min or two with any full screen moving images. Granted, my tv does have a screen saver that I use and it also has a screen wipe (all white image/screen) that I've used the few first times I saw IR and nearly freaked out thinking it was permanent burn-in, but it's also 2+ years old, so if it was going to burn...it woulda already! NO damage from video game HUDs or sport broadcast HUD's whatsoever. In fact, I don't even get any IR from these, only from the black bars when watching blus with high ratios and like I said, these go away. I imagine today's plasmas are way better, as they are a few generations ahead of mine. Last edited by Blu3; 01-13-2009 at 09:31 PM. |

You were fooled by LCD's pretty colors in a well light store environment. Sorry. At home, it's a whole different story. No image blur, color trails or flat images, just pure PQ.

The fact that LCDs "usually" look better in store has no bearing to how they will look in your home unless your home has constant super bright overhead lighting. In a darkened movie watching environment, Plasma destroys LCD in black level by a long shot. The LCDs which have similar performance are very expensive. |

By the way LCD's can have burn in to if you set it to dynamic and leave a still image for to long or use PIP for to long as well.

Go to best buy and look, ins. yes is based off of price and how likely you are to have a problem.

I don't consider any B&M stores when buying warranties. They are massively marked up. So I'll take your word that BB prices them higher but other companies don't so your argument isn't conclusive. There could be any number of reasons why they are more expensive for plasma aside from return rates.

Easy big guy. I think anyone here would agree that burn-in is still possible and what not. Comments like "a thing of the past" are just another way of saying hey, plasmas have come a long way and can take more beating before permanent burn-in occurs. That being said and regardless of burn-in, it still makes sense to me that LCD's are cheaper to warranty/repair/etc., because it's an older technology, been around longer, parts are cheaper. Also helps to explain why less LCD's need repair - been around longer, more time tested technology and parts/components than plasma. Are the plasmas you see in your day job new ones or older models? What years seem to be the most troublesome? Is it getting better with new models or same failure rate? Do people report why they are having issues? Is it spread out amongst all the manufacturers or is it one/two manufacturers? What about models? A lot here can make a difference in explaining things...
