Default Blue Ray content on "plain old" DVD

Might seem like a dumb question but is there a way to encode a blue ray content standard onto a DVD?
I would like to play with BDJ but I don't want to buy a blue ray burner (I don't want to play with it THAT much).

Thoughts?
Thank you.

I don't know why you want to since the content wont fit on a DVD and if it did it would be DVD quality. There is also the issue of copy protection on the disks as well.

I think it it those lasers the cartoon characters from those 70's cartoons shot out of thier eyes. In 1978 in Kiss meets the phantom of the park Paul Stanley had Red ray.

Hmm, I thought I answered that. My content could be under a megabyte. BDJ - blue ray disk java- spec is what I would like to play with but I don't want to play with blue ray (funny colored laser) burner (and I don't really need it beyond playing).
Thanks for suggestion to post in PC section, will do.

you can encode hi-def video on a standard DVD that will play in a Blu-ray player. i don't know about authoring BD-J content on a DVD though.

You can burn HD content to a normal DVD (on a mac, not sure about PC) using a program called Toast, you need to download the High Def authorising plug-in as well.

I managed to fit my short film (Directors cut - 4.95GB, Exhibition cut - 4.89GB and Out takes - 2.15GB) onto one DVD (4.7GB) some how at 1080i 25fps. I have no idea how they fit on there but they did!

It's pretty awesome watching your own film back in HD

Not sure about BD-J though.

PS. The menu's on Toast SUCK.

Ahh, sorry. I think I found what I was looking for- there are BD-5 and BD-9 standards that supposedly allow full Blue Ray spec on DVDs (including BDJ). Still have not had a chance to play with any of it though.

Thanks!

I don't read even what I typed, why would I read what somebody else typed?! And site names as of late are such a good source for spelling... systm, flikr, etc- how do I know blu-ray isn't somebody's idea of "cool spelling"?

I was referring to the laser color anyway...

The only economical way to back-up you're blu rays is to buy a huge hard-drive (both internal or external) and back them up to there. I currently copy all my blu ray films to my hard-drive. (I'm not sure if this is legal, but considering
I own the disks I can't see where the problem would be).

Unfortunately, hard drives die so it's not a sure fire backup method but like you say it's the only economical method but it comes with some risk.
