Default New to audio...could use help

Hey im kinda new to the high tech audio, but Ive decided to upgrade.
I don't think im getting the full potential of my stuff and im looking to upgrade.
Heres what I have (its not the best) : Sanyo 720p 32'' , PS3 , Tivo HD w/ additonl external hdd , and a phillips HTS3544 surround sound. I dont care for it becuse the speakers plug in as clips. I think you can strip the wiring so they will plug into a normal reciever.

Also I have a 15'' sub in my car that I dont use, It has an amp but the power comes from a battery so im not sure if it will work inside. Is it possible to use this becuase it sounds great in my car??

Im using HDMI cords and a digital coaxil for sound from tv to reciever.
I want to get a decent reciever (around $300 or soo) then upgrade from their. Any suggestions on how to go about this.

Thanks Alot!
Brandon

Im not 100% sure but is the sub dvc? If so how many ohms per vc? I think home audio runs at 8 ohms so if you have a duel 4 ohm vc put them in series and you would have 8 ohm but if its a duel 2 ohm. donno.

That's just my 2 cents.

Btw 15's like to suck alot of power so you might wanna find a cheap powered sub and use that for your sup or just rip the driver out of the powered sub box modify the box and then use that 15?

P.S. If you do this, or modify anyother electronics, You always have some rish of fire. So if your house burns down not my fault. You did it not me.

Other than reading my thread for most of my advice, I suggest not using your car sub for HT use. It is complicated to set-up, it is no where near as accurate or as good as a proper HT sub, and is just not going to be easy to set up with a regular receiver.
