Default Is HD DVD winning in Europe?

I just saws this article at DVD Empire. Here is the link:

http://hidefdvdempire.blogspot.com/2...-dvd-more.html

The article states that PS3 sales are not factored in. Also look at the DVD Empire sales chart at this link:

http://www.dvdempire.com/index.asp?u...ite_media_id=0

I wonder what the reason HD DVD is outselling Blu-Ray for this week. Could it be sales of 300 combined with The Untouchables?

What do the rest of you think?

Not according to amazon sales. They are not the final word, but they are a good judge.

the only lace HD DVD is winning is in the imagination of HD DVD fanboys.

As for the DVD empire numbers, they are running totals for the week, they always tend to favour HD DVD in the beginning but by the end when the real numbers are in HD DVD is much lower, some think there might be a bug, others that it is a bias on their part (push some of the BD sales until later), I just think that some HD DVD zealots realised that it is based on running total and try to fake the numbers early on so that they can feal good for a bit by seeing HD DVD doing better then reality.

HD DVD is absolutely destroying Blu-ray in every single market (even Japan!) when you compare the sales of 15 and 30 GB movie discs.

How the Blu-ray lie was allowed to continue this long is an outrage!

"Is HD DVD Winning in Europe?"

... not in my house.. not by a long shot..

No I'll be very surprised if it was even neck and neck now in europe. Sales of PS 3 have been stronger than the U.S in the same time frame, well over the million have been sold in Europe already and given that it's only been out since 31st March thats not too shabby. Again if you only said 10% of PS 3 owners were using it primarily for playback and another 15% were casually buying Blu-ray disks then that'd absolutely dwarf HD DVD in the region. One of the best things I can make out for Blu-ray in the Uk at least is that Casino Royale is still ranking very high on the sales chart. Meaning that despite the promotion that Sony had with the PS 3 for the first 500,000 who signed up getting a copy of the film there are a hell of a lot of people new to the format purchasing blu-rays for themselves.. think if we get a BIG title now hit then it'll be a slaughter in the charts for HD DVD. Now let me see.. whats out later this year...think my spidey senses are tingling..

yup this is the place (US/Canada) where the two sides are closest. And even here it is not close enough for anyone but the dumbest people to think HD DVD has a reasonable chance to win.

Probably was closer in Canada than anywhere else in the world. At least until that $150 PS/3 price cut.

It IS very strong in France but even then it's now pretty much even keel with Blu-ray for the most part which is not bad going when you consider that Studio support in France is certainly better geared for HD DVD than Blu-ray. There's some pretty good releases in HD DVD that you won't find anywhere else on the format in France but it's still starting to loose its lead it once had there.

these guys too cheap to buy a bluray player so they buy a hd dvd thing and expect the world to change to them. Spreading lies about how you can't refinish a bluray disc and the OHHHHHH they look the same. Listen the video data comes off the disc at a faster rate on bluray, the discs hold more data so less compression, way more studio support with bd+protection, none scratch coating. I read all this stuff before hd disc came out and picked bluray well over a year ago. These guys that walk into a store see hd dvd for 299 and buy it with out doing any home work pffffff please. When I look at the movies universal is releasing I don't miss any of them I am quit happy with the ones coming out for bluray. This is all so stupid.

Most certainly a FACT! No one can argue with this one!

Each and every single HD DVD supporting studio (this includes Universal) has sold more 15 and 30 GB disks (and players that play them) than the entire Blu-ray alliance combined.

Well what can you expect when HD DVD has more storage space than Blu-ray. They keep trying to sell the myth that Blu-ray has more space and higher bandwidth!

I'm not buying it!!

I think it is really possible, that HD-DVD Players lead the Blu Player Sales. But there are some things to remember...

1) Espevcially in Germany, people are very price sensitive.... The cheapest Blu Player is 999 € (about 1350 USD)... The 2nd gen Blu Players are still not here... So HD-DUD leads the Price.... and the market

2) PS3 Sales are not included... and there are a lot people watching Blu on them (also me.. :-) )

3) BLU leads the Disc Sales.... at Amazon and I even think at Saturn (large CE Retailer)... When I`m looking at mine you got about 7 Rows and 1 Isle of Blu against 3 Rows HD-DVD...

4) HD-DVD is some more months longer at the market

So I think Blu will make it here...

Yesterday my boss/chief bought a PS3 for watching Blu (was hard to convince that HD-DVD won`t make it ).... So don`t believe everything in the Media...
