Disney Blu-Ray packages

Damn Disney!
All I find in stores for Star Wars: The Last Jedi & Black Panther are:
Blu-Ray + Digital Copy combo package & DVD by itself. Are they no longer going to package Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy combos?

And on top of it, the Blu-Ray + Digital Copy combo packages are STILL the same price they were when the DVD was included. So now we get less items in the package but for the price as before.

This is standard. Studios take away and charge the same or more in some cases. I wish they'd have taken the DVD copy out and charged $3-5 less.

As long as they keep the digital. However, they seem to be testing the waters on that one too...

People were speculating that Walmart wanted that as an exclusive due to the high theft within their stores.

It's part of Blu-ray that I've never understood. Why do they even come with DVDs? DVDs didn't come with a VHS included...

Granted, I do buy 4K/Blu combos without the ability to play 4K yet... but blu-ray players are in majority of homes nowadays thanks to PlayStation and Xbox.

I understand DVD copies being included in 2008 when Blu-ray was new, but a decade later? Little bit ridiculous. Charge us $14.99-$17.99 for a Blu-ray/Digital and call it a day.

If you want Blu-ray/DVD/digital for The Last Jedi, you have to buy it from Disney Movie Club or get one of the Target/Best Buy/Walmart versions. Best Buy is probably sold out by now since it's a steelbook (those go quickly) and probably Target as well, so your best bet is either WM or ebay if you're not a DMC member.

Marvel hasn't had a BD/DVD combo for a while... Dr. Strange, Guardians 2, and Thor 3 were weird exceptions. My guess was to bring in more viewers because Thor 2 was a bit of a bomb, and no one really knew who Dr. Strange was aside from comic book readers. And Guardians 2? ...I am Groot.

DVD's probably cost them like $.10 to manufacture anyway at this point. So whether they include it or not is relatively negligible to their actual costs.

I have never personally found them useful. But people do have DVD entertainment systems in the back sets of their cars, and I don't think blu-ray ever really became much of a thing in cars. So I guess that is one legitimate use people still might have for DVD copies. I agree it's kind of annoying though, especially some of the niche releases that are 1 blu-ray and 2DVD (Arrow video, I'm looking at you).

Because they're both disc-based formats, and you can play a DVD in a Blu-ray player. And the "second copy for the kids in the car" etc already mentioned seemed to be a prevailing thought.

You can't play a VHS tape in a DVD player

Nowadays, DVD or digital, neither are useful to me. I make my own digital copies to my own specs to watch the movies I bought on any device at any time, with the original Blu-ray (or the original DVD, before there was Blu-ray) as a backup.

For a while I had some success selling the extra DVDs or digital copies, but I still have stacks of them that I haven't been able to get rid of.

If they took out the dvd they would still charge everybody the same price as before. the dvd is basically free to include since it lets them do larger print runs (because you increase the market size).

Its pretty simple a dvd costs basically nothing to include and it increases the number of people you can sell the product to. I do in fact know people who still use the dvds for car dvd players and the dvd determines whether they buy a combo pack or not ( they bought a 4k movie and are annoyed it did not include a dvd for car trips). The dvd is also so cheap to produce its basically free to throw in but it makes people feel like they are getting more.

Also When they remove the dvd in general the price doesn't change at all its more of a $20 for a blu ray combo or 20 for just the blu ray (as demonstrated by black panthers walmart release right now).

That's why they're not including them anymore. Not necessarily because they're saving costs.

I know they did that with Black Panther, I didn't know they did it to TLJ too. Maybe it's a way to combat the sale of digital copies.

Considering that Walmart has racks and racks of digital copies selling for a full TWENTY DOLLARS...

This isn't really on topic. But why don't more digital movie services have "order this today in digital for $19.99 and we'll ship you the BD when it comes out."? Vudu offered it for Cloverfield Lane and I loved it. Got to watch the movie early but also got the physical copy.

The physical product doesn't cost much to make but its certainly worth that in value as its a 2nd physical copy of the movie.

Also thats why studios stopped including it, people were selling the dvds on ebay or giving to friends which could take away a potential additional new sale the studio would have made money on.

Right, but it doesn't cost the company $3-$5 to include, so they're not going to drop prices any if they stop including it.

I've given away DVD copies from combo packs to family members for birthdays and Christmases for the last five or so years.
